Interesting ideas for decorating lampshade do it yourself

Lighting - the most important component of the interior. It is the lighting that determines the comfort and the level of comfort of our home. The play of light and shadow allows you to beat the winning moments of the interior and divert attention from unsuccessful moments. And also - lamps, floor lamps, chandeliers and lamps create the atmosphere that we call the "house". The unique lamps and the best way to make a lamp shade with your own hands will help to make your home only “yours”, personal, individual. Self-made ceiling lamps and lampshades - this is the horse that will make your home stand out from the rest.

A few words about security

In the manufacture of lamps, floor lamps and chandeliers in industrial environments, the minimum distance from the “body” of the lamp to the materials is pre-calculated. This distance depends on the power and thermal radiation of the lamp and on the type (flammability) of the material from which the ceiling / lamp shade is made. At home, hardly anyone will bother with such calculations. And in order not to create a dangerous situation, you should follow certain rules.

Use low-power light bulbs that do not emit a lot of heat. There are two options - "housekeeper" and LED. When choosing LED lamps, you have to buy expensive ones, since you need lamps with good radiators - metal and ceramic, which dissipate heat. These are far from cheap specimens. It can be comforted by the fact that they emit an even light and have a very long service life (in theory, several decades).

Before you do your own lampshade, think about safety

And in general, having made the lampshade and installing it, in the first few days pay attention to whether the ceiling is heated. Heat is any increase in temperature above the environment. If the ceiling feels warm, change the light bulb to a less powerful one. Check again. So until the self-made lamp shade will not be heated.

Where to get the frame

If you want to alter the old lamp, a floor lamp, sconces in which the old lamp shade has fallen into disrepair, you can simply use the already existing base, stripping the old material. Before starting work, well inspect the frame, if there is somewhere rust or damaged coating, maybe you should tear and paint everything again? At the same time, the color can be changed. If there are no old frames, you can buy an inexpensive lamp (in a store or at a flea market) and do the same operations with it. Quite good lampshades, by the way, can be made from trash cans. They are wire, there is plastic. The main thing - to find the right shape and size. Then make a hole in the bottom of the cartridge. Next - the case for decoration / trim, and then the options for the sea.

Self-made lampshades strike with a variety of forms and materials

If this method is not available, you can make a lampshade without a frame (there are such) or make a frame yourself. Material for making a frame for a lampshade do it yourself: wire, wood (wooden or bamboo sticks, specially cut out elements), plastic bottles.

How to make a frame for a homemade wire shade

Wire for the frame of the lamp need aluminum or steel. It is easy to work with aluminum, but it is easily wrinkled. This is not very important when the lampshade is already in use, but this fact must be taken into account during work: you can spoil the shape. On the other hand, such plasticity allows you to easily and easily make changes in shape during work. So the option is not bad. Aluminum wire can be “extracted” from electrical cables. It is necessary to remove the protective shell and can be used.

The steel wire is more elastic, so that it keeps its shape well. It can be searched on the construction market. Working with her is more difficult. It is desirable that the number were strong male hands.

Forms of lamp shades that can be made by hand from wire

In addition to the wire, you will need powerful wire cutters and pliers for work. The lampshade frame usually consists of two rings and the racks connecting them. The shape of the future lampshade depends on the size of the rings and the shape of the uprights. Questions may arise on the number of racks and how to mount them. The number of racks depends on the size of the rings and how “round” you want to make a lamp shade. The more racks, the more "smooth" the fabric will fall. So you choose, but the optimal distance between the posts in the lower circle is about 5-6 cm.

Techniques for creating a frame for a wire shade

The methods of attaching the stack to the lampshade rings depend on the thickness and type of wire, as well as the tools you have. The easiest way is to make a small hook at the end, then clamp it tightly. And so that the ring does not slide to the right and left, the wire at the attachment point should be pre-treated with sandpaper with a large grain. This is an option for thick aluminum wire. If the wire is steel, with a diameter of 1.2-2 mm or more, the best way is welding. The thinner wire can be bent and wound around the ring or also make a hook.

If you do the hooks, wind the wire, the appearance is far from perfect as the factory frameworks. But this imperfection will be covered by the lampshade itself. If she cares about you, find a ribbon of a suitable color (usually matched to the color of the lampshade) and carefully wrap the resulting frame. It will be much better. The tape can be smeared with PVA glue and, wet, tight, coil after coil, wrap the frame.

Wire Mesh

If you manage to find a grid of fine wire, you can quickly make an almost perfect cylindrical ceiling for a floor lamp, a desk lamp, a night lamp, a ceiling lamp for installing a candle, etc. All you need to do is to cut a piece of the grid of the desired length and width, roll it up into a ring and fasten the wires, wrapping them around the racks.

Cylinder frame for wire mesh lampshade

To prevent the grid from straightening, cut off a piece, cut so that there are long loose ends on both sides. They will fasten the cylindrical cover. And the imperfection of the upper and lower rings can be masked with a ribbon of the desired color.

From a five-liter plastic bottle

An interesting shape lampshade can come from a plastic bottle with a large displacement. There are bottles of 5-6 liters and even 10. That’s what you can use. We cut off the top from the tank and go to the bottom - depending on what you like best. In the cut off part we make a ring chambered for. If the upper part is cut off, a neck can be used for some cartridges. For those with a larger diameter, it will have to be cut.

Plastic bottle cover

Then we cut out the extra plastic, form the rims and racks of the ceiling. Not to be mistaken, you can draw all the lines with a marker beforehand. Cutting will be easier. All elementary. Then just decorate. And yes, it is obligatory to cut plastic, otherwise there will be no place for warm air.

Making lampshades on the frame

Options on how to make a lampshade cover are enough:

  • Sew fabric.
  • To tie. Hook or knitting.

You can tie the cover on the lampshade with knitting or crocheting

The easiest and fastest way to transform an old lampshade for a floor lamp or table lamp is to use tapes. Need a frame or lampshade in the form of a cylinder. It can be "naked" or covered with a cloth. If you use a "bare" frame, the light will break through the slits, which will create interesting lighting effects, but the lighting will be non-uniform. Reading in this light is inconvenient - this is an interior solution. If you need even illumination, first cover the frame with a cloth. It can be the same color as the tape, a couple of tones darker or lighter, can be contrasted. It all depends on your desire. And remember that the darker the fabric, the less light the lampshade misses.

We take a tape with a width of 1-2.5 cm. We fix it from the seamy side of the lamp shade with the help of PVA glue, additionally fixing it with a pin. If you took a wire frame without fabric, fasten it to the upper or lower rim (you can sew it with your hands, you can use glue). Then we begin to wrap the entire frame, from top to bottom, placing the turns of the tape close to each other, but without overlap.

How to make your own hands lamp shade

Having completed the circle, the ribbon is turned 90 °. We fix in this position (with a needle and a string or with PVA glue, with a glue from a pistol, fixing it temporarily with a pin, pressing it with a pin). Then we skip the tape under the first tape, pull it out, put it over the second one, then pull it down again, pull it up through one tape. So, gradually, we create an interlacing, filling the whole lamp shade.

Alternatively, you can skip two vertical ribbons. But then it is necessary to ensure that each successive row is shifted by one crossmember. Then we get another type of weave. Such a lamp shade is ideal for floor lamps, since the light will be directed downwards, the dispersion through the walls will be small.

This technique is very plastic and allows you to get different results.

In this embodiment, the tapes may be the same, they may be the same color, but different textures, they may differ by a couple of tones or be contrasted. In the circle of the tape can be started sploshnyakom, but you can - after some distance. If you find a wide ribbon and overlap it with overlap, then you will not need horizontal ones at all. And if you use a braided or twisted cord (in the lower photo on the right), we get a completely different lampshade in appearance. So only this lampshade finishing technique gives a lot of options.

Interesting options

Briefly present ideas. There are many options for how to customize the standard frame for the lamp shades in an unusual way. The first method was already voiced: you can tie the cover on the lampshade on the needles or crochet. Several options in the photo.

Not everyone can knit. It's easier to work with beads, especially if you glue it. You can decorate the old fabric with the help of beads, sequins, beads of different shapes and sizes. You will make such a “new-old” lampshade with your own hands in a couple of hours. Pick up decorations that match the color, coat the fabric with PVA glue, paste the decorations. To complete the image, you can collect pendants from beads and beads that are attached to the lower rim, but this is already hard work. Although the effect is interesting.

Refresh lampshade can be using beads, beads, sequins

You can sew a new fabric shade. But it is not necessary to make it an updated copy of the old. It should include fantasy! If a lamp or a floor lamp stand in the girls' room, a new cover on the lampshade can be made in the form of a skirt. The style of the skirt you choose. It looks interesting in the fold. With and without ruffles.

Dress up a desk lamp in a skirt)))

In the boy's room, you can use the old geographical map. They are on thick paper. If the paper is not dense enough, you first need to stick the card on the cardboard, and then glue the lampshade from such a blank.

You can use geographic maps

Original ceiling can be obtained if the finished frame braid threads or ropes. Ropes can be natural. In this case, they are gray, brown, beige. You can find thin synthetic colored cords. Of them get more "fun" in color products. Even easier is the case with knitting yarn. They are thin, thick, textured, with a smoothly changing color. In general, the weight options.

We take the skeleton and follow it in a definite pattern. You can start with the racks. Tie each rack with a pigtail (the length of the threads should be 3 times more than the height of the rack). When this work is finished, we begin to pull the thread / rope between the racks. They will need to pass through the braids, so that with the threads it is more convenient to do this with the help of a needle, and the ropes can be pushed through and so.

Several ways to braid the frame threads

The second option is to first horizontally entangle the entire frame, and then braid the stands. Pigtail here will not work, you just need to incline the stitches with a certain inclination of the turns on the stand. This version is slightly simpler to perform, but the "pigtails" look more decorative.

Homemade ceiling without frame

Many materials are tough enough to keep their shape on their own and, at the same time, they are plastic enough to make something interesting out of them. There are a lot of self-made lamp shades. And almost all of them are worth your attention. We give here only a part, the other part will go to the section with photos (see below).

From knitted lace napkins

Many people have crocheted napkins and they lie in “zagashniki”, since it is a pity to throw them away, and they don’t know how to use them. There is a very interesting idea - to make a lamp shade for the chandelier on the hanger. In addition to napkins, you will need a big balloon or an inflatable ball, glue for heavy wallpaper (vinyl, silk screening, etc.), a brush.

Such a beauty can be made from lace napkins

Soak the glue according to the instructions, wait until it swells. Inflate the ball or take the ball, hang. When the glue is ready, lay a napkin on some clean surface, coat it with glue, lay it on the ball.

It is necessary to lay out with such a condition that the hole for the cartridge will remain in the center. One by one we glue napkins. They should be laid out so that the edges overlap a little. When all the napkins are laid, once again we coat them with glue and leave to dry. When the glue is dry, blow off the ball or the ball (the ball can be pierced, if not sorry) and remove it through the hole. That's it, the lace lampshade is ready.

In some cases, there are problems with how to hang the finished lampshade on the cartridge. The problem is solved simply - take a transparent plastic bottle, cut off the neck of it, if necessary, expand the hole to the desired size (so that it is tightly mounted on the cartridge), then cut off the plastic so that the ring is 5-7 cm wide. and from the inside of the ball you glue to the lampshade.

Round ceiling of the thread

Almost the same technology can be used to make round and semi-circular stylish ceiling lamps. Choose threads of the right color. Their composition is absolutely unimportant - color, thickness and texture are important. They can be wooly, smooth, twisted, thinner and thicker. Appearance depends on it. The most convenient way to work with cotton threads of medium thickness. They absorb glue well and then, after drying, perfectly keep their shape.

Need a ball, glue and thread

You will still need a ball or a ball. This will be the base of the lampshade that sets the shape. Basis sizes are selected at will. The threads will need to glue, for this you need PVA glue. It is poured into a container, diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 1.

You can use another glue. It is important that it becomes transparent after drying. These are WB-29 from TYTAN Professional and D2 glue for joinery. If you use any of these types of glue, read the instructions.

On the ball or ball draw a circle, which in size will be slightly less than the lamp holder. From the opposite side, draw a larger circle - this will be the lower edge of the ceiling. Now everything is ready, we can proceed.

We wind the thread soaked in glue, leaving holes

We glue the threads with thread and wrap them on the ball in a chaotic manner. It is more convenient to do this if the glue is poured into the container - there you can drop the whole hank, and just slowly pull the thread. With glue in a tube, everything is not so comfortable: you have to coat parts up to a meter long, wind them up, miss them again. The time it takes is much longer. This is if you do not use PVA. But on the other hand, the products are more rigid and do not sag, do not change shape with time, as can happen with the thread shades on the PVA.

When winding threads on the ball, carefully go around the circles drawn. If you accidentally climbed into the "forbidden area", simply move the thread, forming a smooth (more or less even) edge. When the threads run out or you decide that the density is enough, the process can be stopped. The edge of the thread refills between others. Everything. Then the ball with the wound threads is again coated with glue (PVA can be watered) and left to dry (at least 2 days). To prevent the ball from rolling, we find a bowl or pot and use it as a stand.

Depending on the thread, we get different shades of style for pendant lamps

The last stage - blow the ball or ball. If the ball has a nipple, push it with a thin wire, releasing the air. Lowered ball out. That's all, you can thread the lamp inside and experience the lampshade.

The technology is the same, but the appearance is very different ...

According to the technology described above, not only round canopies can be made. Rectangular, triangular, trapezoidal. Choose a base that is easy to remove, winding up threads, tape, even sticks, newspaper tubes, etc. soaked in glue. After drying, remove the base and now, you made your own lampshade. A couple of examples in the photo below.

Chandelier decor: create comfort with your own hands

Handmade products today are very popular. You can create a new lampshade for a chandelier or a floor lamp from any available material or purchase some items in a handicraft shop. The most simple and affordable materials for creativity - paper, plastic, thread or fabric. You can also create an original decoration for the lamp from old discs, natural materials - grapevine, seashells, stones or broken glass. Fabric shades made of jeans, burlap, linen tape also look original. As additional elements of decor, you can use beads, buttons, satin or rep ribbons. This article contains interesting and unusual workshops on self-design lamps from different materials.

Below is a table showing some types of handmade chandeliers, and what materials are needed for their manufacture.

Fabric and flower shades

The simplest thing you can think of is to cover the old frame of the lampshade with a new, pretty fabric, for this purpose you can choose absolutely any kind - from tulle and organza to jeans and wool.

As an option - just drag the frame, you can go ahead and create an unusual collage of pieces and shreds of fabric, come up with pockets or, for example, decorate the fabric with artificial flowers and buds. By the way, flowers can also be made by hand from fabric or corrugated paper, there are many master classes by various designers, which explain in detail how this process is carried out.

Do not cease to fantasize: the old monochromatic lampshade can be pasted over with contrasting lace or, for example, fantasized with frills and denim styles: fringe, scuffs, pockets and buttons.

Wool and fantasy

You can make an interesting lampshade for a floor lamp using ordinary wool and glue. Surely, such a simple technique was taught to you at school, but we will improve it somewhat. To do this, you will need a regular balloon, needle, a skein of thick thread, PVA glue, scissors, and a varnish spray.

As a result, we should have a very unusual and, best of all, suitable for almost any decor, lampshade in the form of a ball wrapped with threads. By the way, they can be painted in any color, add a few details and a very unusual floor lamp is ready! Inflate the balloon to the size of the desired lamp tightly tied.

We insert a thread into a needle with a wide eyelet, pierce a jar of glue with a needle, draw the thread through it: thus, it will absorb just as much glue as necessary to create our lampshade, remove the needle.

Now we tightly wind our balloon all over its surface, the thread should be well wrapped around it, slightly squeezing the ball (the thread is constantly soaked with glue, passing through the jar). We are waiting for the threads to dry completely, after which we gently untie the ball, release air from it and take it out of the thread frame.

We spray the frame with varnish, insert a lamp with a cartridge into it, fasten it. You can leave the lampshade in this form, and you can still further decorate, for example, add to the surface a few butterflies made of fabric that will keep their shape.

Knitting or other crafts

If you have been fond of knitting for a long time, then your skills can be useful here: you can reinstall the frame of the old lamp again or simply sew a cute and colorful “cover” out of unnecessary patches of an old sweater.

Be sure to pay attention to the "leg" of your lamp - it can also be ennobled with the help of threads, how you can decide: just wrap with colored stripes or, again, tie a kind of "cover".

If you own a decoupage technique, then in decorating your favorite lamp shade, it will come in handy more than ever! Especially well, if your lampshade is devoid of any design, and only covered with a plain light fabric, because such a surface is a real expanse for your ideas - flowers, fruits, cities or abstractions, what to paint, it's up to you.

The well-known technique of macrame, which involves knot weaving, is also very successfully used in the creation of the most unusual and fancy lamps.

Fans of modernity can turn their attention to simple, but very interesting options for updating the old lampshade with the help of old photos, clippings from magazines and even unnecessary X-rays!

The most unusual and unusual ideas

Have you ever met a lampshade, which is completely made of plastic spoons? Imagine how your friends will be surprised to see such a creation in your home? A variant of tin cans? It turns out that you can weave the most real chainmail for your lamp out of them!

Very interesting and delicate are lampshades made of lace knitted napkins. The technique of execution completely intersects with the version of their dense threads, which with the help of glue "sit down" on the inflated ball.

And the beads? How not to mention these colorful positive beads, which can decorate and fill with joy even the darkest day! Even if you have never engaged in weaving of beads, it does not matter, for the manufacture of such a lamp shade you need only a skeleton and many, many, strung on a fishing line, beads!

Whatever one may say, but the hand-made technique has recently been very popular and widespread, so it’s not difficult to find the necessary materials and handy tools. Work, patience and inexhaustible fantasy, a part of which we have shared with you, will become the best assistants in this not always easy, but very interesting work!

Materials for decor

In order for a self-made lamp to look original, you can use a wide variety of materials and accessories to decorate it. Basic materials for work:

  • glue (PVA, silicate or glue gun),
  • twine, wire, twine,
  • beads, rhinestones, beads,
  • scissors,
  • pliers,
  • thick cardboard, sheets of white paper,
  • frame for lampshade,
  • chamber for light bulbs and wires.

This is not a complete list of materials that are used to create a lampshade. You can use any available tools and materials.

The simplest version of the basis for the lampshade is the frame from the old lamp. You can use metal frames from old lamps, which are further decorated by the choice of the master. Also as a basis you can use glass jars, plastic containers. The skeleton of the product can be made of wicker or wooden panels.

A lamp chamber and wires can be purchased on the market or used remnants from an old lamp.

From papier-mache

An interesting solution for interior design is a lampshade made of papier-mâché. For decoration, you need white paper, old newspapers (can be replaced with thin sheets of paper), PVA glue, a balloon, water. Before starting work, the ball is inflated to the extent that the lamp will later be. The newspaper should be cut into long strips, which for a short time leave in glue or paste. The surface of the ball must be wetted with water and the first layer of the newspaper laid out. One of the parts of the ball is not glued, as the light will come from it in the future.

Unusual solution: if you do not glue the lower part of the ball with a newspaper layer, the light will be directed towards the floor. You can also leave the side of the ball free, in which case the light will come to the side.

To create an unusual lamp made of papier-mâché, you will need to apply 5-6 layers of newspaper. Be sure to ensure that before applying the next layer, the previous one dries completely. After completion of the calculations newspaper, the lampshade can be pasted over with white paper, apply liquid wallpaper. After the decor of the lamp, the ball needs to burst, paste over the lampshade with paper from the inside. Make a hole for the chamber from the top of the product.

From cardboard and paper

Another decor option is a paper lamp. This requires thin white cardboard or other colors. The length of the cardboard sheet depends on the required diameter of the finished product. The selected contour is applied to the cardboard (butterflies, hearts, stars, etc.). Using a clerical knife, the selected patterns are cut from the canvas. The cardboard is glued along the edges and mounted on the frame of the future lamp. Along the edge of the lampshade, you can attach ribbons or fishing line decorated with beads, on which to hang symbols cut from cardboard. This product looks very original on the ceiling of a nursery or bedroom.

Color beads can be strung on the ribbons, which will alternate with paper figures.

After turning on the lamp with such a frame, funny figures will appear on the walls of the room.
The use of fabric for the decoration of the lamp

Fabric shades are easy to manufacture and tolerate cleaning. As the simplest version of the lampshade, you can take a piece of fabric that looks harmoniously with the interior of the room, and sew its edge. There is a lace in the upper part and that's it - the lampshade is ready. Such a product is mounted on a metal frame and is also easily removed.

A more complex version of the fabric shade can be decorated with ruffles, weave ribbons. The lampshades sheathed with fabric ribbons or embroidered with beads and sequins look quite original.

For the decor of the living room can be made lampshade, decorated with ribbons with fringe. Finished tapes are sold in sewing stores. To attach the fringe to the frame using a gun with hot glue. The adhesive substance is applied with a thin layer on the frame of the lamp, to which the band is subsequently attached.

If there is a need to decorate the finished lampshade to make it match with the interior, various figures can be cut out of the fabric, which can be attached to the lampshade with a glue gun.

Handy objects

In any house you can find a lot of items that can be used to decorate the lamp. And if you search in the garage, you can create a whole studio of designer chandeliers. The most important thing is to show imagination and approach the choice of materials for the decor outside the box.

For fire safety purposes, it is necessary to use objects that are resistant to high temperatures, or to install low-power bulbs before starting work, the surface of the object should be cleaned of dust and dirt, and degreased.

Choosing a lampshade style, you should consider the interior of the room, its purpose. For example, a lamp shade made of plastic spoons will look strange in the living room, which is decorated in an elaborate glamorous style. However, the lampshade decorated with rhinestones and stones will be completely inappropriate in the kitchen or in the summer gazebo.

From plastic spoons

This lamp is ideal for decorating the kitchen. It is very easy to make, with the materials for the lamp cost a penny. So, for the work will need the following materials:

  • A set of plastic tablespoons. Total required 50-100 pieces of equipment, depending on the desired lamp size.
  • Pistol glue.
  • Set of acrylic paints and brushes.
  • Frame for lampshade. A ready-made metal frame from an old desktop floor lamp is suitable for use.
  • Scissors.

First, cut off the holder from all spoons. Each product must be left to 0.5 cm of the boat for mounting. Next, parts of the spoon in random order are attached to the frame. They can overlap each other, imitating fish scales, or go around, resembling rose petals. The legs of the spoon can also be used for decoration. After covering the entire surface of the frame, the surface of the spoon is covered with acrylic paint - monophonic or multi-colored. Using this technique of decoration, you can create a lamp in the form of a pineapple, flower, goldfish and others. A plastic spoon shade is suitable not only for a ceiling lamp, but also for decorating a bedside lamp in a nursery.

From plastic or glassware

The household often accumulates bottles out of the water, which can be used for decoration of lamps. Before starting work, the bottle must be thoroughly washed and dried. Further actions are the freedom of the master's fantasy.

Sconces from the glass

For example, by cutting the neck of the bottle you can create an excellent holder for the bulb holder. Several of these accessories, which are glued together, form an unusual chandelier. Bottles can be used from multicolored plastic or coated with transparent colored varnish. So, in the room will sparkle multi-colored rays of light.

To create a lampshade, you can also use pickled glass jars. Hanging fixtures from cans at different levels will be an interesting design solution in the design of the kitchen. Also, when arranging the kitchen, it is possible to use for decoration the lampshade of a saucer, cup, splinters from broken dishes.

Of twine

Such lamps can often be found as lanterns on the streets or on terraces. To make such a lamp at home is very simple - to create it, use twine and glue.

Before starting work, as in the case of a papier-mâché lamp shade, you need to inflate a balloon of the desired size. It will serve as a form for the future product. Twine should be soaked in paste and wound on the ball in random order. The free edges of the string are tied, and the knot must be placed in the upper part of the ball, where the chamber will then be located. Dry the product will be about 2-3 days. Then the ball needs to burst and you can attach the chamber and a light bulb. The finished product can be decorated with large beads, dried flowers. To decorate the gazebo, you can use several of these lamps of different sizes.

Thus, there are many options for creating an original lampshade. In this work, you can use not only special inventory, but also improvised items. Making and decorating the lampshade will not only decorate the house, but also have a great time.

Frame and base for a lampshade do it yourself

First you need to choose a lamp or several fixtures for which you want to make fabric shades. It is better to use lamps with energy-saving or LED lamps. Conventional light bulbs can simply burn the fabric, so it’s best not to risk it.

Before starting work, you need to remove the frame for which you will create a lamp shade. If the lamp does not have a frame, then it can be purchased, for example, in a special store or building department.

Also, the frame for any lamp, whether it be a floor lamp, desk lamp or a chandelier, can be made independently. This will require a thick wire and pliers.

The shape of the base can be any. It will be easier to make a lampshade for a cylindrical or cone-shaped frame.

How to choose a fabric for a lampshade

First of all, you need to choose a suitable fabric for the lampshade. You can use light, hard or thick material. If you wish, you can make a lampshade even of wool, it all depends on the idea of the creator and the interior of the room.

If the frame consists of a conventional wire, it is better to use an opaque material to close it. Dark silk, cotton and taffeta will do.

It is also worth remembering that the color of the fabric can give both cold light and warm. In the first case, you can use blue or green fabric, and in the second - yellow, orange or red.

Necessary materials for the manufacture of lampshade

Fabric shades can be done in different ways. If the new lamp shade will be stuck on top of the usual monochromatic lamp shade, then no preparatory work is required.

  • glue (you can take special for fabric or universal).

When all the necessary materials and tools are at hand, you can start sewing lamp shade do-it-yourself fabric.

First step

First you need to make a pattern to cut the required amount of fabric.

There are two ways: if the frame is cylindrical, then you can measure the circumference and draw one line on the fabric, then measure the height and draw a second line. After that, it remains only to draw two more sides of the rectangle and cut the template.

If the frame is cone-shaped, then you can spread out the paper, take a pencil and gradually roll the frame over the sheet, mark the dotted lines of the passage of its sides.

The main thing is that the frame is completely scrolled, for this you can mark a reference point on it with the help of a piece of thread, or pin. After that you can join the lines and cut the pattern.

Third step

When the size of the template coincides with the size of the base for the lampshade, you can begin to attach it to the fabric. If the material is with a pattern, you need to arrange the template so that the drawn elements “look” in the right direction. It is necessary to calculate everything so that, for example, not to cut off the head of a flying bird. Otherwise, the lamp will look ugly.

The template must be applied to the seamy side of the fabric, and then it must be fastened with pins. After that, you can gently circle the pattern on the contour. If the fabric is dark in color, you can use not a simple pencil, but special crayons for a fabric or a piece of soap.

After that, you need to draw allowances. To do this, draw a line at a distance of one and a half to two centimeters from the borders of the template.

Fourth step

Not removing the pattern from the fabric, you need to carefully remove the pins one by one and wrap the allowances inside. To fix the fold lines you need pins.

Now you need to remove the template and fill the sewing machine. Threads must be chosen such that they are almost not noticeable on the fabric.

Now you need to stitch the resulting part on a typewriter. This should be done only from three sides - one of the sides should be left untreated, in order to later form a seam on the frame itself.

Need to flash at a distance of five to seven millimeters from the edge. If there is a desire, it is possible to process cuts. But in any case, they will have to hide when the fabric is glued to the frame.

Eighth step

Now you can glue the fabric to the frame. It is necessary to hide the raw cuts, and make the seam so that the lampshade is closed with a stitched edge.

If the lampshade is attached to the base of the wire, which is wrapped with cotton ribbons, you do not need to apply glue to the entire surface of the workpiece, it is enough only to the part that comes into contact with the parts of the frame. In this case, you need to stretch the fabric well.

Step nine

Ready lampshade should be left for a while so that it is completely dry. After about a day, the lampshade can be put on your favorite lamp and enjoy a beautiful object that will surely decorate any interior.

Fabric lampshade decoration

Table lamp with lampshade Looks much nicer than just a regular bare lamp. But if a single color is chosen for a lampshade, then you can decorate it in an original way. Here are some ideas on how to make an interesting fabric lamp shade.

Provence Style Lampshade

In order to decorate a monochromatic lampshade, you will need a piece of fabric and fringe. Usually, green, turquoise and pastel shades of colors are used for Provence style, as well as checkered colors or floral patterns.

First you need to choose a suitable fabric for the single-colored lampshade and cut two strips from it - one to decorate the top of the lampshade. This strip of fabric should be long in order to completely wrap the circle and make a bow. The second strip should have a circumference of the lower part of the lampshade, and it is necessary to sew a fringe on it. This can be done on a sewing machine.

All loose edges of the fabric must be processed so that it does not crumble. After that, using glue or thread with a needle, you need to attach a ribbon with a fringe to the base of the lampshade so that the fringe hangs down.

Then you need to decorate the top of the lampshade. To do this, you need to glue or sew the tape along the circumference, and tie loose edges with a bow.

Lace can also be used for the shades in the Provencal style. This element is good because it can be simply glued to the fabric.

You can make lace flowers, stripes or completely paste over the lampshade from the fabric with lace napkins.

Fabric lampshade

Another unusual idea that will allow desk lamp with lampshade to look like a flowerbed - decoration with flowers from fabric.

For flowers, the fabric of delicate shades is perfect, you can use, for example, organza or chiffon, or you can simply take, for example, an old jacket, cut strips and twist roses from them.

A lampshade can be decorated with only a few flowers, but if you have time and patience, you can make a whole bunch of flowers to completely cover the lampshade with them.

Lampshade do-it-yourself shreds

If there are many pieces of different fabrics at home, you can make a lampshade from multi-colored patches.

In order to make such a lampshade, it is necessary to use the technique of sewing pieces to the basis of fabric. The easiest way is to cut a piece of fabric to the size of the frame and divide it into several wedges.

Then to each wedge you need to sew shreds as you like - you can sew strips of fabric diagonally, or make small squares. In order not to delay the process, it is better to use a sewing machine.

After that, all wedges with shreds will need to be stitched together and glued to the base of the lampshade.

Such a lamp can perfectly fit into the country style!
