Greek-style fish marinated in carrots and onions


Sometimes the names of dishes are paradoxical, such as fish in Greek, which we advise to cook today. It has absolutely nothing to do with a country in which you can sunbathe on the shores of the Ionian and Aegean Sea, but is a national dish of Polish cuisine. Most often it can be seen at the head of the Christmas table.

Tasty, satisfying, not trite

When it comes to the dish for the holiday table, fish are often forgotten. And very vain. The recipe in Greek is great for any celebration and a pleasant dinner with your family. In addition, it will be an excellent addition to the menu of adherents of healthy eating, who cherish the figure, but do not want to sacrifice the taste of their favorite foods.

If you are no longer surprised by fried, stewed or stuffed carcasses of sea creatures, then we advise you to try something new.

The following products will be needed:

  • fish fillet - 500 g,
  • cheese - 200 g,
  • sour cream - 100 g,
  • Tomato - 2 pcs.,
  • onions - 1 pc.,
  • garlic - 3 cloves,
  • greenery,
  • spice.

It is worth noting that the fillet can be chosen to your taste. But it is worth noting that white meat is better combined with vegetables than red, for which various herbs are more suitable. And for those who love spicy garlic, you can take more than indicated in the recipe.

We start cooking. Thawed fillets need to be washed, dried and cut into portions. Season with spices, sprinkle with a little lemon juice, and lightly fry. After that, put in a container for baking and cook vegetable sauce.

For it you need to chop tomatoes, onions and herbs, squeeze garlic. Add to this mixture sour cream, grated cheese and put on top of the fillet. If you want an appetizing crust to appear in the cooking process, sprinkle the prepared ingredients before baking the breadcrumbs.

Approximate cooking time in the oven - 20-30 minutes.

You can cook this delicacy without baking, in a frying pan. To do this, put the vegetable dressing on the fried fillet pieces and stew under the lid for 5-7 minutes.

And if the number of pieces of fillet turned out to be more than the size of your baking sheet allows you to put it, you can make the dish two-layered.

As additional vegetable ingredients, you can use broccoli, cauliflower, corn, bell pepper, and for those who are not afraid of extra calories, sour cream can be replaced with homemade mayonnaise.

Sometimes eggs are also added to the main ingredients. Of them fry a thin omelette, cut into small pieces and laid together with other products.

And in order to give the dish even brighter flavor, you can serve it with tomato or cream sauce.

Greek fish under the marinade

  • fillet of any marine fish 700-800 gr.

  • salt, red chilli pepper, ground black pepper.
  • rosemary, thyme, bay leaf.
  • flour 2-3 tbsp. spoons.

The right choice of fish and its processing

Greek-style fish in the oven is tasty and juicy from any product. However, experienced chefs recommend purchasing only low-fat white fillet for such a dish. Indeed, in the process of forming a high-calorie sauce of mayonnaise and vegetables will be added to this ingredient. In addition, you should buy not very bony fish. Pollock, hake, pike perch or haddock are ideal for this purpose.

Thus, choosing a suitable product, it should be completely defrosted, washed thoroughly in cold water, cut off the fins, tail and head, and then cleaned of viscera and skin, cut in half and remove the ridge with smaller bones. As a result of such actions, you should get a clean fillet, which must be chopped into fairly large pieces.

In order for the fish in Greek to turn out more delicate and fragrant, the processed product should be laid out in enameled dishes, sprinkled with lemon juice, flavored with spices, including allspice and salt, and set aside for 40-60 minutes. During this time, the fillet will absorb all the ingredients laid out to it, it will become especially tasty and soft.

The process of cooking refills

The fish according to the Greek recipe necessarily poured fatty and fragrant sauce. To make it, you need only 13-16 minutes of free time. To do this, you need to take a few large fresh tomatoes and completely strip them of their hard skin. So that it is well moved away from the meat part, it is recommended to immerse the vegetables for a few minutes in boiling hot water. Next, peeled tomatoes should be chopped into small cubes and put in a bowl.

In the same dish you want to grate hard cheese on a large grater and crush the chives. After all the actions taken, the ingredients must be flavored with aromatic spices (be sure to take into account the fact that the fish fillets have already been salted) and fatty high-calorie mayonnaise. As a result, you should get a thick, fragrant and tasty dressing.

Process of forming a dish

The Greek fish recipe presented requires using a deep but not very broad form for baking. Its surface should be well greased with vegetable oil, and then gently spread the white fish fillets marinated in lemon juice. Next, the main product is required to pour tomato-mayonnaise dressing so that it is fully immersed in the sauce.

The readiness of the dish can be determined by the softness of the fillet, sticking a knife or fork into it, and by appearance. How to properly present a dish to the table?

Fish in Greek is served to the family dinner or festive table only in hot condition. To make the presented dish more satisfying, it is recommended to additionally serve some kind of side dish. It can be boiled rice, steamed vegetables, and fried (wrinkled) potatoes. In any case, this dinner will turn out very tasty, and all the invited guests will certainly appreciate it.

Other cooking options

  3. It is necessary to whip fatty cream, add wheat flour to them, and then mix with fresh champignons (2-3 pieces), cut into thin plates, and grated cheese. You can also add adjika or tomato paste to this dressing.
