Feeding, care and raising a Labrador puppy

At puppy age, Labradors resemble plush toys. When a dog becomes an adult, its playfulness does not fade away. For this reason, Labradors are great for families with children. Pet will be a real nurse for kids and a great friend for you. Dogs of this breed are quite active, so that regular walks are an integral part of the content. However, one should not allow complete freedom of action of the dog, because it may well become a real beast.

Features care Labrador

Ears. Like any domestic dog, Labrador ears should always be clean. In order to prevent the development of bacteria, which can cause an unpleasant smell, it is enough to wipe your ears once a week with a damp cloth made from natural material. You can also use a universal lotion for cleaning the ear canal to pets. It is strictly forbidden to use cosmetic tampons or cotton swabs.

If during the procedure you feel the smell from the ears, consult a veterinarian without fail. If a family pet shakes its head or constantly scratches its ears on a carpet, upholstery or other surfaces, it is most likely that a foreign body that gets into the depth of the ear canal prevents it. Also, the animal may appear ear mites, which are quite difficult to bring on their own.

Bathing. Labradors love water treatments, so they bathe with great pleasure in sea / freshwater springs, baths or even puddles. However, it is not recommended to allow frequent bathing of a pet, as this adversely affects its coat and skin. It is enough to wash the pet once a 2–3 months with a special shampoo for dogs to prevent the protective layer from washing off the upper layers of the dermis. Frequent washing can be the result of skin diseases.

To properly carry out the procedure, it is necessary to moisten the animal's hair with plenty of water. Next, distribute the shampoo on the palm, then rub it into a thick foam. Pass the dog's fur between your fingers so that the pet feels calm, feeling the owner stroking. The animal will begin to shake off, it is not necessary to swear, thus the dog removes the remnants of moisture and calms down the discomfort.

Shampoo treatment should be carried out 2 times. After that, carefully wash off the foam from the wool so that it does not irritate the skin of the animal. When bathing comes to an end, dry the dog with a towel and comb. Scratching should be done regularly, and not just after washing. In advance, purchase a special dog brush at the pet store. Teach Labrador to similar procedures from an early age.

Teeth. Caring for the oral cavity of the dog involves a regular inspection of the mouth. Particular attention is paid to the period of the change of primary milk teeth. If you notice that your pet is growing a molar tooth, and the milk one has not yet dropped out (at the growth site), contact your veterinarian for a doctor to remove it. Pamper your dog with raw carrots or potatoes, the prevention of this kind will help avoid the formation of tartar and eliminate bad breath.

To facilitate your task while brushing your teeth, use toothpaste for dogs (you can buy it at pet stores), you need to carry out manipulations daily. To begin, the pet should be familiar with the new procedure: for this, rub the paste with your fingers, not with a brush. Later, the pet will get used, and you will be able to use a baby toothbrush with a soft degree bristles. After the procedure, do not forget to praise your pet, treat him with a treat.

Claws Get a pet clipper at the pet store. To properly carry out the procedure, wash and dry the pet's paws, press the fingertip so that the claw comes out. Cut off the free edge without hitting the capillaries, retreat 2-3 mm from the burgundy area. Conduct haircut claws as they grow, as a rule, the frequency of the procedure varies from 1-2 times a month.

Labrador training

Nickname Each owner almost immediately thinks about the nickname for his pet, to further pet responded. For this reason, you should accustom the puppy to the name so that the dog clearly understands when it is her name.

More often say the pet's nickname, indulge its delicacy every time the puppy responds. The procedure is best carried out during feeding: while the animal eats, gently stroke it on the neck or back, repeating the name 10-12 times. As practice shows, Labradors get used to a new nickname in two weeks, in some cases earlier.

Team "Give!". What matters is the education of the dog with regards to people and other animals. It is necessary to teach a pet not to rush to passersby in order to play, they may not understand the intentions of the dog. In order to avoid awkward situations, train your puppy to “Give!” Command. There is no need to make sudden movements and pull something out of your teeth from a puppy, do not shout, dogs do not like it.

Take the food in your hand, and the other hold the mouth, say the command. In this way you will exchange food for the thing that the animal holds in his teeth. Labrador gets used to the actions, eventually he will execute the command without delicacy. Teach your dog good manners calmly, without aggression. The pet will remember your good attitude, therefore, without anger, he will give away what he has in his mouth.

Schooling to the toilet. Give your dog a separate place to install the tray. Cover the flooring with oilcloth, put old newspapers or a disposable diaper on top, it can be purchased at a pet store, a hypermarket or a pharmacy (cost about 100 rubles for 8 pieces). After you have prepared the intended place of the toilet, carefully monitor the behavior of the puppy. When he starts to whine, sniff, push the tail, trying to defend the need in the wrong place, grab the animal in his arms and carry on the tray.

In case you did not manage to keep track of your little pet, gently take him by the withers. Shake, but do not tear off from the floor, while sentencing in a strict voice, "You can not!". Do not shout, do not squeal. Stick the puppy with its nose, then take the newspapers, wet them with urine and take them to the tray. Show the dog with a scent where the toilet is. Pet sniffs and eventually get used to meet the needs of the allotted place. To teach to the toilet you need small puppies, when they can not bear to go out.

  1. Labradors are prone to obesity, they can not be overfed. To determine whether the nutrition is properly balanced or not, put a few fingers under the edges of the animal. They should be palpable, but not stuck. It is important that a small body of fat is present, otherwise the puppy will develop incorrectly. Signs of obesity are immediately visible: the dog has a slack back and dispersed paws.
  2. Food intake should be considered based on the lifestyle of the animal. If you often spend time outdoors and play, you need to feed your puppy 3 times a day. If the pet is lazy and leads a passive lifestyle, feed it no more than 2 times a day.
  3. The best time to eat is half an hour after the walk. During the meal, do not give the animal a hot meal, it should be slightly warm. Determine the temperature regime as follows: stick your ring finger inside the porridge. If you feel hot, cool the feed. Otherwise, you can harm the dog's stomach.
  4. Lean sorts of meat are suitable for feeding Labrador. Ideal - pork pulp, turkey, beef, chicken. Give your pet instead of fillets sinewy parts. If you are going to feed Labrador with raw meat, remove the fat layer in advance and treat the food with boiling water. Many owners prefer to cook minced meat from cereals, all sorts of meat and chicken eggs.
  5. Do not forget to pamper your pet fish without bones. Such products contain the maximum amount of protein, iron, phosphorus, iodine and other useful elements. Also give boiled and raw eggs, cottage cheese, kefir. Add salt should be in minimal quantities. Do not feed the Labrador with the remnants of the table, he is accustomed to his diet, do not disturb him. Thus, you can extend the life of a pet for 2-3 years.

Nutrition characteristics of an elderly Labrador. If your dog is no longer young (8 or more years old), it is recommended to reconstitute the diet. Prepare for your pet low-calorie food. Give the dog less meat during the day, it is better to replace it with fish, it is much more useful. Continue to include in the menu dairy products, add wheat bran to eliminate the likelihood of constipation. Give the Labrador vitamins and minerals according to the recommendations of the veterinarian, the complexes are sold at any pet store.

What can not be fed Labrador

  • hot, cold food,
  • spicy, floury, fried, sour, salty dishes,
  • homemade "delicacies" (canned foods, twists, etc.),
  • sausages,
  • candies, cookies,
  • tubular bones
  • wheat flour pasta,
  • legumes.

Practical recommendations

  1. Once every 3-4 months you need to do prevention from worms. Do not forget about the annual vaccination against the plague of carnivores and rabies. A veterinary passport will be placed in the clinic. Optionally, you can microchip the dog to track its movement in case of loss.

It is easy to contain a Labrador, if you have sufficient knowledge with regards to nutrition, education and care. Purchase pet food specifically for your breed at a pet store or cook minced meat on your own. Do not forget to undergo planned annual vaccination, give your dog a complex of vitamins and minerals. Teach a puppy to the tray from an early age, call a pet nicknamed him to get used to it. Spend time in the fresh air, do not neglect washing, grooming and claws.

Introduction to the breed

The correct name of the breed according to FCI classification is Labrador Retriever. These are great hunting dogs and they are popular in most countries of the world.

Labradors have become faithful helpers of man in many aspects of life.

They mastered the profession of a guide dog. The hunters praise their working qualities. Reliable companions in families with children.

That's just the guards will not get out of them: in a man they see only a friend and they do not show aggression to animals either.

Labrador is hardy, has good health. He likes coolness and is not afraid of cold, but it can be kept in the apartment. Life expectancy reaches 10-12 years.

With the right upbringing and care, the Labrador puppy is perfectly trained, despite its violent temperament.

Why education?

Like any large breed dogs, Labrador dogs grow slowly. Their childhood lasts up to three years. Therefore, care and education of a Labrador puppy is aimed at training obedience.

The puppy will not hold, so as not to splash in the water. Let it all just a puddle or ditch.

He is ready to eat everything, always and everywhere. Happily runs to rummage in a landfill.

Most of all, Labrador loves to play and starts playing games with all animals for a walk.

The teenager becomes an unruly dog.

Raising, caring and feeding a Labrador Retriever helps to competently and gradually engage with the baby. Then the negative side of his energetic character does not appear at all.

To start a successful

Prepare for the appearance of a puppy in the house: take away small things that he can swallow. Wires, extension cords and antennas must be inaccessible to the curious pet.

Do not leave books, underwear, shoes, sharp objects, sewing accessories, tablets and chemicals within his reach.

Cover the carpet with a slippery floor. In extreme cases, put the rubber tracks. This will help protect the joints of a young Labrador.

Before you bring your baby home, prepare in advance the items of care and upbringing for your Labrador puppy:

  • vitamins and feed, on which it grew breeder,
  • special shampoos, comb and brush for the care of wool,
  • bowls on a stand for food and water,
  • various toys, soft collars, various lengths of leashes,
  • and be sure to "place" - a mattress in the bag.

Puppy in an unfamiliar house

While the pet gets used to the new place of residence, he is experiencing emotional stress. From this baby gets very tired, there is increased irritability. There may even be dandruff on the fur. After getting used to a new home, it will disappear. The appetite of the Labrador puppy will also be restored.

How to care for a pet? We must remember that these early days are the most important for your relationship with your pet. Around him is a new and wonderful world. There are no brothers and sisters, a cozy mother's side. Until the baby feels calm and safe, try to understand him and do not scold for the crimes committed. He will get used in about two weeks.

The puppy wants to explore everything for a tooth: indoor flowers, books, shoes and clothes, the host's dinner, electric wires ...

Despite all this, be patient. It is important that your pet feels love and understanding. This is where the care and upbringing of the Labrador puppy begins.

If the baby has grabbed small objects, first bend down his head, and then take it away. If you begin to open his mouth, raising his face, the puppy can swallow them.

You can not pull anything from a small pet of the teeth. Whether it's rags, wands, leash or toys. Because the baby's jaws are still weak and you can spoil the bite.

If the puppy whines on the first night - go to him. Caress and calm. After all, he is scared and restless alone in someone else's house.

But just do not take him to his bed, he will settle there forever.

Feeding, care and raising a Labrador puppy

You must remember: you can not grow a healthy and beautiful dog on the remnants of the table, throwing him bones and "meat for dogs."

Labradors are great lovers to enjoy themselves and often are not averse to pulling something off the table. Therefore, be sure to adhere to the feeding regime. The puppy should remain “round”, dense, but not fat. Constant overfeeding threatens with growth disorders that are difficult to cope with: a heavy step, sagging back line and even joint dysplasia.

The baby is very actively growing: in comparison with birth, its weight in five months will increase tenfold. It becomes clear that when feeding, caring for and raising a Labrador puppy you need to take into account its active growth.

Newborn babies at the breeder feed on their mother's milk. And already in the third week they are given additional food: fresh cottage cheese, boiled egg, rolled boiled meat. It is important to follow the correct feeding schedule:

  • up to three months - Five times,
  • in four to five months. - four times,
  • at six to ten months - three times.

A teenage puppy at eleven months gets food like an adult dog - twice a day. Feed your pet after a walk, constantly at one time. The baby quickly adapts to the regime, not giving the owner additional trouble with how to care for and feed the Labrador puppy.

Natural food

If you decide to feed the dog with natural products, consider a number of features:

  • Lure start with fermented milk products. Further, they will become the basis of the entire diet. This is kefir or sour milk, unsweetened natural yoghurt and low fat cottage cheese.
  • Meat babies give boiled: beef or poultry. Be sure to seedless. From two months, offer pieces of raw beef.
  • Vitamins of a puppy will be pampered with vegetables (carrots, zucchini, pumpkin, beets) and fruits (apples, pears and even grapes). They can be offered to the Labrador Retriever even raw.
  • From cereals recommended rice, oatmeal, buckwheat. Of these, you can cook porridge in meat broth.
  • Chicken eggs can cause allergies in dogs. Therefore, they can be given in a day or two or only once a week.
  • Fish give only sea. It should be lean, boneless and boiled.

The approximate ratio of foods in your pet's diet: 50% meat, 30% cereal, 20% boiled vegetables. Sometimes it is good to include beef offal in the puppy menu: heart, scar, lungs.

Labrador has the highest need for meat at the age of nine months. A dog needs about a kilogram a day, a bitch needs seven hundred grams. Then the daily portion of meat is gradually reduced. At fifteen months, his puppy requires only five hundred grams per day. It is advisable to give meat in the evening.

Vitamin complexes are added to food. They are sold in the form of capsules, powders, granules, tablets or drops.

What your dog should never eat

When choosing a Labrador puppy for yourself, learn how to care for and feed him in detail with the breeder.

Labradors (puppies and adults) are strictly prohibited:

  • smoked, salty, spicy foods,
  • pasta and flour products,
  • any sweets (candy, cakes, jam, chocolate, biscuits, sugar),
  • tubular bones
  • pork and all kinds of sausages,
  • legumes (peas, beans),
  • potatoes,
  • cabbage,
  • bow.

Dog food should not be hot or cold. If after feeding the leftovers are not eaten within twenty minutes, they should be removed. Labrador Retriever puppy is very easy to feed, babies have a great appetite.

Full feed

Many labrador owners find it convenient to feed the dog with ready-made food. It is nutritious, in it animal protein, trace elements, amino acids, vitamins are balanced.

How much to fill such food in a pet bowl, indicate on the packaging. If the puppy eats everything greedily, and then licks its bowl for a long time, you can make more portions.

Clean drinking water should always be available for the pet. Change it every day.

No need to mix natural food with dry granules. Complete feed contains all the necessary components.

Having noticed which brand liked the puppy, try to feed only with it. Labrador digestion adapts to a constant feed. A change of diet can cause upset stomach for a while.

Upbringing begins

Care and upbringing of a Labrador (1.5 months) is necessary from the first day of his appearance in your house.

The kids are introduced to the room that will become his home, the people and animals with whom he will live. Pet show his toys and tray. You must immediately teach your puppy hygiene. Leaving him alone at least the first month is not recommended.

Big sleepy, baby needs a quiet nook where children or other animals will not disturb him. The first months of the life of a Labrador largely determine the balance of his character. It is important to balance the alternation of feeding, play with rest.

Children need to explain that a puppy is not a toy. They should take seriously that a pet needs a restful sleep.

Set aside for some time buying beautiful basket houses. Until the pet understands that the sleeping mattress is not food, a large cardboard box can serve as a house. In it the cut is made - an entrance, the laying is placed.

Features of upbringing and care for a Labrador puppy from 2 months lies in the fact that puppies of this age really like to bite. This they get very painful, because the baby teeth are sharp like needles.

Explain to a silly that it hurt you: slightly click the puppy on the nose, saying “fu”, “no”.

The little labrador doesn't need active physical activity at all. Quite a little, about ten minutes, to play with him in the garden. Long walks, while it grows, do not need to make.

Take care of your pet from slippery floors, high jumps, climbing stairs. That is all that can cause "joint shock".

Even if a labrador retriever looks like an adult at eight or nine months, he is still a baby. Any accidental oversight of the host can have dire consequences.

Pet health

Your little pet was given anthelmintic procedures in the nursery three times: in ten days, in three weeks and in seven weeks. It will be necessary to give these drugs ten days before re-vaccinations. Repetition is done three to four weeks after the very first vaccination.

Before leaving the breeder, the Labrador puppy was vaccinated against distemper, parvovirus enteritis, viral hepatitis and leptospirosis. In order to fully protect him from deadly diseases, re-vaccination is needed. Until it is delivered, quarantine is maintained. After being vaccinated for two weeks, the puppy cannot be walked on the street and allowed to contact him with other dogs. Be careful! After all, the virus of the disease can be carried on the soles of outdoor shoes!

Raising and caring for a Labrador puppy at 3 months is no different from the previous age.

Follow the feeding tips. In winter, give your pet fish oil as a source of vitamin D, and wheat germ oil is recommended in summer. Do not get carried away, follow the dosage, so as not to cause hypervitaminosis.

Up to half a year, until the teeth are changed, the puppy can gnaw big beef bones like a toy. But for an adult Labrador it is dangerous - there is a risk of injuring the intestines. It is better to buy him the bones of the tendons in the pet store.

Daily hygiene

Care and education of a Labrador puppy provide for mandatory hygienic procedures.

After the walk, wash your baby's paws or wipe them with a damp cloth. Protect the delicate pads from the harmful salt that is sprinkled on the streets. To do this, the soles of the paws of the puppy are smeared with ointment, which contains natural wax.

Labradors do not require special care for wool. If a disobedient pet has fallen in the mud, it is bathed with shampoo for puppies in warm water.

For daily care, it is enough to wipe the baby’s fur coat with a damp cloth. A set of them can always be bought at the pet store. In the same place get a soft brush from special rubber. It will give the wool a beautiful shine, and a light massage when combing stimulates blood circulation and likes the puppy.

A couple of times in a month, cut your pet's claws with special clippers. Ears are cleaned once a week with a cotton swab dipped in ear lotion. Eyes should be wiped daily with cotton pads. They can be moistened with liquid for the eyes or just boiled water.

Proper education and care of a Labrador puppy will help you raise a wonderful companion. A loyal friend, admiring glances, live a happy life and bring many happy days to you.

The basis of the coexistence of the owner and the dog - understanding of their role by each. Principle: the person controls the pet strictly, but always fair. The submission of the dog is based on respect for the justice of the owner.

A little background on the properties of the breed

Labradors for over 1000 years helping a man to fish and hunt game. Disputes about their color last for the same period. Black, chocolate or fawn? In litters, starting with the ancestors of the breed, descendants of three colors were born. therefore Choosing a puppy depends only on personal preferences or a gift of fate., which manifests itself in the fact that it will choose you 1 - 2 month old baby.

Describing the nature of the breed, we single out a friendly disposition, docility, the desire to be close, the desire to serve, the willingness to work shoulder to shoulder. And the constant desire to eat. No one has ever seen a full Labrador. The owners of the dogs say that they are piercing a cold sweat, if they think that the food has ended.

Important! Puppies are difficult to learn security skills, but they are easy to train the work of a rescuer, assistant, hunter, fisherman or detective.

Raising a Labrador puppy from the first months

The educational process begins with the first hours of stay in the house. Schen will whine, missing relatives, but he is introduced to the place, the bowl and the temporary toilet. When stress passes, the puppy will be happy to learn.

Raising a Labrador puppy is well done under the guidance of a dog handler. Age 4 - 6 months fruitful to start such studies. But with unobtrusive upbringing at home, excellent results are also obtained. The puppy will gradually master the commands:

  • 3 months: “Place!”, “Lie down!”, “Phew!”, “Sit!”,
  • 4 months: “To me!”, “Near!”, “Stand!”, “Give me a paw!”,
  • 5 months: “Voice!”, “Wait!”, “Location!”,
  • 6 months: "Aport!", "Show your teeth!".

Training Labrador at home gives a good result when you start early work on raising a pet. Masters labrikov assure that learning 3 - 4 month old babies give odds to 6 - 8 month old teens of other breeds.

To make the puppy feel protected personal territory is required. This is his house in the house where he sleeps, rests, hides. Therefore, it is impossible to punish here, to hurt, it is also impossible to invade there. To accustom to the place, enclose there sweets or toys.

The behavior of the Labrador in the house depends on the owner. Everything happens as in wildlife. The leader dictates the requirements, the rest obey him. The authority of the leader is indisputable, otherwise his role will voluntarily be transferred to another family member. For a Labrador, absolute is everything that comes from the leader, and submission is joy.

Attention! In the animal world, rights leader. Punishment is accepted. Only it must follow immediately after the misbehavior, and not after an hour and a half, because the logic of the puppy connects only the direct sequence.

Each member of the pack has inviolable places, and the leader too. Your intonation will allow your pet to realize that it is impossible to touch certain things. But, probably, the gnawed things smelled so much of a host that they helped to relieve the longing for a loved one.

A puppy is taught from childhood that the owner has the right to his delicacy, toy, food. In no case of aggression against a family member is inadmissible.

Feeding rules are followed by the puppy and humans. Before you sit down at the table, feed and remove the dog from the dining room. Pads from the table will form a glutton and insolent who will steal from the table at every opportunity. Guests wishing to win the sympathy of the animal, warn in a firm voice.

And further: A puppy should not barking for no reason. A trained dog does not give a voice when there are no people in the house.

Important! Family members are responsible for raising the dog, regardless of gender, age or status. The logic of the puppy is simple: praise or give a treat, then everything was done correctly.

Socialization of the dog is manifested in the ability to communicate with the environment. In 6 months, teach your pet:

  • beware of other people's vehicles
  • refuse food offered by a stranger or found on a walk,
  • not to get involved in dog showdowns, especially if they are stray dogs,
  • recognize dog accessories.

Trained dog on the street goes on the command "Near!", does not respond to people, animals, vehicles. The main requirement is not to cause inconvenience to others.

Attention! Sociability Labrador - a sign of the breed. The only drawback is the ability to scare a stranger or a child. Avoid this with a leash, muzzle and training.

Collar and leash

The collar is worn immediately after the baby adapts to the new conditions. Put on the collar and immediately distract, offering a treat or a toy. After 2 - 3 days a thin collar will not cause any inconvenience.

The leash is perceived as an attempt on freedom, but will be forgotten from the first minutes on the street.

Raising a Labrador puppy: 2 months is age when the pet is taught to clean. If the puppy is too small, the toilet is arranged on a rag, newspaper, in a tray. Watch your baby after waking up, eating and playing. As soon as the puppy starts, worrying, looking for something around it, you need to carefully pick it up, carry it to the toilet and, gently speaking, wait for the result. Be sure to praise the puppy.

Late morning toilet starts upon waking. A walk in 5 - 10 minutes solves problems. The main thing - a permanent place of walking and praise. After each meal, the puppy is taken for a short walk.

To accustom to the place can also be from the second month, and better from the first day of appearance in the house. If the puppy is whimpering, you need to offer food, place it in the prepared place and place a heating pad or fur litter there. Reduce mother's longing for a piece of diaper from the breeder's house.

It is not recommended to take the puppy with you to bed or hold it in your arms when it whines.

Behavior in society

Labradors are very sociable, therefore they meet guests and react to them violently. Try to have the puppy execute the command “Place!”, “Sit!” Or “Lie down!” At the moment of greeting and arrangement of guests. When guests are accommodated, the puppy is allowed to leave its place or cancel the team.

Raising a Labrador puppy: 3 months is the age when the pet is taught to meet the owners with restraint. Let him execute the command “Sit!” Or “Place!” In the first minutes of the return of the hosts home. After undressing and dressing, you can start communicating with your pet.

Care and hygiene

Labrador puppy: care and education accompany each other. Inspect labriku regularly. From an early age they clean his ears, wipe his eyes, cut his claws, comb.

The most incomprehensible procedure for a puppy - bite inspection. As soon as trust is established, after a walk at home they give the command “Sit!”, Followed by “Show your teeth!”. Thumbs gently pushing the lips and inspect the bite. After a couple of weeks, you can conduct an inspection on the street. The puppy will soon raise his lips in response to the command.

An adult dog requires less care. The owner monitors nutrition and health. Proper diet and diet will avoid obesity. Bathing and combing will prevent and reveal skin and hair diseases, for example, ringworm lesions or the attack of parasites such as fleas.

Ears and eyes with a regular inspection are always healthy, and trimmed claws do not bleed. Walking and swimming provide the dog with activity so that the muscles and skeleton are not decrepit.

What not to do

If actions are encouraged by the delicacy, then they are correct in understanding the puppy. If they are not punished, they are admissible. Be sure to give the command "Fu!" immediate refusal of what can never be done:

  • gnaw household items, clothes, shoes,
  • pick up food outside
  • raise your voice to the host and family members.

Mistakes in education allow inexperienced owners. Rough include:

  • learning Labrador unusual skills, such as guard,
  • scolding and beatings during training,
  • conniving a puppy for punishing an adult dog,
  • heavy physical exertion, incommensurable with the puppy's age.

Encourage labrika for everything done correctly and with pleasure. For the execution of the command, even if it lasts a second, for the approach to the host on the team, for the correct reaction to an unusual stimulus. The encouragement for the puppy is a tender voice, stroking and delicacy. For an obzorki, the size of the treat is not important, even with a pea.

Attention! The punishment for a puppy is the strict intonation of the host’s voice. If the puppy does not execute the command or is in a state of excitement, you can shake the withers, lightly strike the nose.

Do not punish the puppy if he rolls onto his back and opens his stomach. At the time of punishment, he should be on a short leash.

The most agreeable, kind, trained and ready to serve the idol of the host dog is a Labrador, one of the most devoted four-man friends. Once having lived with this miracle of nature, you will never change the breed.

What is this breed?

Labrador is a breed that was originally used as a working one. Dogs were lifeguards and guides. By the way, the name of the breed is translated from Portuguese as “worker”.

Description of appearance: the body of an adult dog is rather strong, its paws are of medium length, the head is wide, the nose is slightly elongated, the coat is dense, consists of the undercoat and the backbone frame. If you study the photo, you can understand that the color can vary from fawn to brown and even black.

In this case, a black or brown labrador may have a spot of small size on the chest. Usually males are larger than females. Their height is about 55-60 centimeters, and weight - about 30-35 kilograms. Growth bitch is about 52-57 centimeters, and weight - 25-30 kg.

Where to buy and how much?

If you decide to buy a Labrador, then do not rush to study ads. Private breeders often deceive customers and offer not a purebred breed, but a mixture. And this, of course, will affect the behavior, character and abilities of the pet. It is best to go to a proven nursery with a good reputation and make a purchase there.

The price of a puppy of this breed can vary from 10 to 30 thousand rubles and above. The cost of these dogs in kennels is often higher than that of private breeders, but then you immediately get all the documents in your hands.

Also in kennels often puppies immediately make all vaccinations. And remember that too low a price should be alarming. Before you buy, take the dog to the vet to make sure that it is a true Labrador retriever, and he is healthy and has no pathologies.

What sex labrador to choose?

Boy or girl Of course, there are certain differences. So, males are more powerful and have a brighter appearance, as well as hardy. In addition, males lack heat, which for many is quite important.

But there are males and disadvantages: they are less obedient, less attached to the owner, have a sharper smell and more pronounced salivation, noisy, and also mark the territory. In addition, mature males may exhibit sexual activity too violently and brightly, sometimes inappropriate, so it is better to think about castration in advance.

As for the females, they are more agreeable and obedient, loyal and attached to the owner, better trained, clever, more calm. But once every six months or a year, females develop heat, which can lead to stains on sofas and carpets and an unpleasant smell.

In some cases, special diapers or dog pants are required. In addition, during heat, the bitch can become capricious and stop listening.

The main character traits of a Labrador:

  • Many believe that these pets are sometimes reckless and stupid, but in reality this is not the case. Labrador is a very smart and intelligent dog.

  • It is worth noting the absence of aggression, Labradors are simply not capable of its manifestations.
  • Such pets are very patient.
  • This is an ideal family dog, as it gets along well with children.

  • Labradors are amenable to training.
  • This dog is a great hunter.

It is best to keep such a pet in a country house, to provide him with space for outdoor games. But the apartment is fine. The dog must certainly have its own personal place, this will allow her to feel safe and understand that she is a family member. It is important to choose a place responsibly. So, noisy or purged space will not work. It is not necessary to make a pet in the bathroom or in the kitchen. Ideal - the corner of the living room.

Equip your pet's home. Lay a bed or put a soft box. You can also highlight the dog basket or box for toys. Daily clean up the pet's habitat, do not forget about wet cleaning (but do not use aggressive detergents with a strong odor).

Raising puppies

Raising a Labrador puppy is a simple matter. The main thing is not to humiliate and punish the child, the basics of education are taught in a good atmosphere of mutual understanding.

Labrador Retriever puppies are similar in character to typical Labradors, so education is one.

The main aspects that require the use of raising Labrador puppies:

  1. Cleanliness.
  2. Good behavior in outdoor environments.
  3. Approximate behavior in an apartment or house.

From a young age, babies are taught to go to the toilet on the streets, of course, if vaccinations to Labrador puppies are already recorded. In the apartment of a puppy, it is possible to teach "to do things" for special diapers or in a tray. But from the age of 6 months the puppy should already ask to go to the toilet outside. It is impossible during the upbringing to physically punish the baby. Love and understanding for the little dog mean a lot.

How to raise a Labrador puppy? Bringing a small puppy into the house, get ready that all unmade shoes, wires, cell phones will remain bitten by little teeth. Labrador puppies and other babies show this “dignity”. In order to avoid trouble, try to remove the necessary items from the puppy's field of view. With age, the puppy will cease to show interest in disgraces.

Do not accustom the puppy to eat from the table, it is difficult to wean the adult dog away from this. The puppy is set strictly designated feeding place, the dog takes food on time. Snacks in animals are not allowed! The baby is given his own sleeping place; it is impossible for the puppy to fall asleep and wake up in bed or on an easy chair.

We train a puppy

Training a Labrador puppy is the ability to fulfill the slightest demands and commands of the owner. Labrador understandable creation, difficulties in executing commands does not arise.

The only difficulty is that the sociable "little bear" constantly seeks to communicate with someone, which is not recommended for his safety.

Puppy food

How to feed a Labrador puppy? The feeding scheme for puppies is the same: up to 3 months of age it is necessary to feed 6 times a day, up to 5 months - 5 times, up to 7 months - 4 times, after 9-10 months they switch to 3 meals a day. after a year the dog is fed 2 times. The meal hours are the same.

An unpleasant moment in the character of a Labrador is a true glutton dog. If you feed the baby excessively (which the dog is extremely happy about), the dog will become obese, along with many obesity will come. Food Labrador puppy provides a balanced, complete and quality.

The preferred Labrador puppy food is dry. You can mix granules with cereal porridge or soups. In the diet of Labrador, the following products are mandatory: chicken meat without skin and bones, beef or veal, lean fish, eggs, sunflower oil, rice, oatmeal, buckwheat, dairy products, cottage cheese, vegetables and fruits. Labrador is very active, from puppy age it is shown to add vitamin and mineral supplements to feed.

Dog care

Labrador puppies, care and feeding are not difficult for humans. It is easy to care for the puppy's hair: bathe the dog as needed, comb it daily with a special brush. Labradors cleanly, in most cases, monitor their appearance.

Eyes of a puppy should be wiped daily with a cotton swab, with the slightest inflammatory processes or tearing, the eyes wipe with chamomile decoction and seek medical advice from a doctor.

Ears do not require special care if the dog begins to scratch their ears or there is an unpleasant smell from the ears, show your pet to a specialist.

Claws trimmed as needed. In the summer, claws are able to grind independently on asphalt and stones.

When detecting the first signs of illness in a Labrador puppy, it is forbidden to self-treat a dog. Only a doctor is able to make an accurate diagnosis of the disease and provide appropriate medical assistance.

Features of the first days of life

Preparation for the proper care of the puppy should begin before the appearance of the crumbs.

  • Determine in advance where in the house there will be a place for a pet. Nearby there should be no drafts, sharp corners and crevices where the pet can climb.
  • Keep away small items, jewelry, medicines that a baby can swallow.
  • If the house is laminate or parquet, it is desirable for the first time to lay the floor with a carpet or walkway.
  • Immediately buy everything you need to care for a small Labrador: vitamins, feed, brushes, toys, dishes, a collar with a leash, etc.

Like all puppies, Labradors are born blind, helpless, unable to independently regulate body temperature and get rid of waste products.

How to care for a puppy

How to care for a Labrador puppy everyone knows who has ever dealt with dogs. This process is simple, you only need to adhere to a number of rules that relate to the living conditions and health of the baby.

Air temperature and humidity

The main source of heat for puppies is the maternal body, so it is important to take care that the room has a high enough temperature. For newborns, it is desirable to maintain it at the level of +24. +26 ° С, and closer to the lounger itself - and all +29 ° С. With each puppy growing up, the temperature should be lowered by 2-3 degrees. At the age of 4 weeks, babies are ready to calmly carry the usual room temperature.

Clean and hygiene

Care and upbringing of a Labrador puppy necessarily include caring for the hygiene of the baby. So that the dog has always been well-groomed and clean, you must:

  • daily combing his wool (buy a soft brush for this, the baby will enjoy this massage),
  • bathe periodically as needed
  • every day wipe with cotton swabs. If tearing or inflammation is noticeable, then you should seek medical advice,
  • watch the little ones claws and cut them in time, or the kids can hurt the mother,
  • lubricate his paws with wax-based ointments before walking, so that the delicate pads do not get hurt, and on returning home, wipe them with a damp cloth or napkin.

Baby health

Labradors are famous for good health, so the owner only needs to make sure that external factors do not harm his pet. The main signs of a child’s health problems are:

  • lack of appetite,
  • reduced temperature
  • lack of weight gain
  • Squeak and cry crumbs,
  • diarrhea.
The last symptom can occur for two reasons:

  • when moving to supplements. Due to hormonal changes in the baby’s body, its microflora is disturbed. The excrement of the puppy at the same time change only the consistency, but not the color and smell. To improve the situation, it is necessary to give the baby probiotics, which can be purchased at any vet pharmacy,
  • when infected with an infection. In this case, it is important to promptly seek help from a specialist, otherwise fragile immunity may not cope with the load.
Also contact your veterinarian if you do not observe a timely increase in baby's weight. For the first 14 days, the baby should be weighed daily, then once every 3 days. By the end of the first 20 days of life, the puppy's weight should increase threefold compared to his birthday.

  • the puppy is healthy
  • at least 10 days have passed since the last deworming,
  • for the past three days, the baby’s temperature has been in the normal range.
Further vaccinations should be carried out on schedule, which will provide a veterinarian.

Attention and love

Labrador is a positive breed, which needs the caress and attention of the owner, as in the air. He needs to be ironed regularly, talk to him, otherwise the baby will be upset. First, give the puppy a nickname. Labradors usually get used to their name in 2-3 days and respond very quickly to it. One of the manifestations of love for kids will be joint walks. You can start with a 10-15-minute walk twice a day, but a couple of times a week make forays into the parks or on the wastelands, where the puppy can run without a leash.

Features of feeding and diet

Nutrition for puppies is important in principle, but for Labradors who like to eat, it is doubly important. Newborns feed only on mother's milk, but here, too, a certain schedule should be followed:

  • 12 times a day for the first week,
  • 8 - in the second,
  • on the third - 6.
The task of the host in this case is to ensure that the female feeds the babies in a timely manner. But somewhere in the 3-4 weeks the baby may not have enough maternal nutrition, so it is important to know what to feed the Labrador puppy during this period.

Natural nutrition

As a complementary food for a growing organism, natural products can be used: the basis (50-60%) should be meat, a little less (30%) of croup and 10-20% fall on vegetables. Great also fit into the menu boiled eggs, boiled sea fish, offal, cottage cheese or kefir. Definitely should be avoided in the diet of Labrador the following products:

  • sweets
  • pickles,
  • milk
  • fatty meats,
  • potatoes, cabbage, onions.
Food for a puppy should not be cold or hot, salt and spices should not be added to it. It is desirable to introduce products gradually, one by one, tracking the response of the growing organism to supplemental foods.

Dry food

Dry food can be given to babies, starting from the sixth week, when milk teeth appear. First, give one granule, then the next day, a couple, and so on, so that the addiction is gradual. There are several points that play an important role in feeding dry food:

  • choose only quality brands that avoid the use of harmful substances in the composition,
  • it is advisable not to change the chosen brand in the future, it can provoke an upset stomach in the baby,
  • it is necessary to feed the puppy with dry food 5-6 times a day,
  • It is advisable to schedule feedings and stick to it day after day.

Dry food is an excellent option for babies, because their balanced composition contains all the necessary additives and trace elements for the harmonious growth and development of a Labrador.

If it is not possible to arrange an open-air cage in the shade of trees, then you can make a canopy. This will help protect the dog from direct sunlight.

To protect from cold, rain and wind, you need a warmed booth. Consider the size of the pet. It is necessary that it fit there with the legs extended. The height of the entrance to the booth should be sufficient to prevent the Labrador's back from bending permanently.

Walking with an adult Labrador should be twice a day before feeding. The total duration of the walk should be 2 hours. On weekends, it is better to set aside 3–4 hours so that the dog can use up all the accumulated energy.

Labradors genetically laid the need for physical activity. Just a few laps in the park on a leash is not enough. We need aportirovanie, outdoor games, in which the owner will act as a partner. The active participation of the owner - the key to a good mood of the dog.

Do not buy dry food by weight.

Caring for a Labrador is not difficult. These are clean dogs and they can take care of themselves.

Bathing and grooming

Labradors just love water treatments. However, it is often not necessary to bathe a pet. This may adversely affect the condition of its wool and skin. It is enough to do this once every 3-4 months, or if the dog is very dirty.

Wash your pet needs warm water. Use shampoo for dogs. Soaps and products designed for people are not suitable.

It is more convenient to do it together. But, if the dog calmly reacts to the procedure, then one person will cope. First, the wool must be well moistened, and then distribute the detergent on the back and sides, then on the paws and tail. Head wash last. Make sure that water does not get into the eyes and ears of a Labrador.

If the dog got dirty while walking, you can bathe it in the shower without special means.

It is necessary to comb the wool a couple of times a week with a massage brush or comb. During the molting period, this should be done every day. You can use a wet towel for this.

Wipe eyes daily. Wet discharge clean with a lint-free cloth, formed dry crusts - with a cloth moistened in boiled water. Show the Labrador to the vet if there is pus in the eyes during the day or they are watery.

Regularly inspect labrador mouth. Especially during the period of changing teeth. Sometimes the molar begins to grow when the milky has not yet fallen out. Here you need the help of a doctor.

Use a dog paste for cleaning. In the beginning, you can rub it with your fingers. Later use a soft bristled baby toothbrush.

To prevent the formation of tartar, let the labrador gnaw special toys.

Fragments that are stuck in the teeth, carefully remove the floss or tweezers.

Labrador ears should be clean. Prevent the breeding of bacteria that cause an unpleasant odor. Wipe your ears once a week with a damp cloth made of natural material.

In the warmer months, conduct daily inspection for ticks.

Watch your pet. If he tries to scratch his ears, shakes his head or there is a dark discharge, an unpleasant smell, then immediately contact a veterinarian. Inflammation can lead to complete hearing loss.

Cut the claws of the dog in time. Otherwise they will cause discomfort when walking.

It is more convenient to use a clipper with a limiter. He will not touch the capillaries.

Cut the claws as they grow, about 1-2 times a month.

Puppy care

Caring for a Labrador puppy will not require much effort from you. Need to stick to the rules.

It is necessary to maintain the correct temperature in the room - 26-29 degrees. As you get older, lower it every week by 2-3 degrees. At the age of one month, puppies can easily tolerate normal room temperature. Watch for humidity, air the room.

  • daily brushing with a soft brush
  • bathing with pollution,
  • daily eye treatment
  • claw correction.

Veterinary Medicine and Vaccination

The first vaccination Labrador do at the age of 8-9 weeks. 10 days before this puppy needs to get rid of worms. Vaccination is carried out only healthy dog.

A month later, the vaccine is repeated. Only 2 weeks after the second stage, the puppy can be taken out for the first walk and introduced to other dogs.

Vaccination is carried out strictly on schedule, from which you can not deviate.

At 6-7 months, after a complete change of teeth, a third vaccination is administered to the Labrador and the anti-rabies drug is administered.

The dog will be given a veterinary passport, which will indicate which vaccine and at what age it received.

After the procedure, the puppy is placed in quarantine for 10-14 days. He should not be in contact with other animals. You can not wash your pet, wet the injection site.

Then the vaccination course is carried out once a year at the discretion of the owner. Only a rabies injection is required.

It is better to choose a vet before the first vaccination and not to change it throughout the dog's life.

If the owner provides the Labrador with the right lifestyle, then his health can be called strong. However, there are a number of diseases to which they are prone:

  • obesity,
  • dysplasia of the hip and elbow joints,
  • panostitis - age-related disease caused by inflammation in the internal channel of the long bones. Puppies are between the ages of 6 and 18 months,
  • osteochondrosis,
  • lysing granuloma - leg ulcer caused by idiopathic licking,
  • retinal atrophy, cataracts,
  • ear infection,
  • epilepsy.

Upbringing and training

Raising a puppy is to start with its appearance in the house. Labradors are not prone to manifestation of dominance, but it is better to immediately show who is the boss here.

Do not take him to your bed if you do not plan to do this in the future. Determine a resting place for your pet and place it there.

To teach a puppy to a nickname, a leash and a collar, a place for a toilet. The latter will require patience and endurance from you.

Do not indulge his whims and pranks. What seems funny at an early age can lead to unpleasant consequences in the future. Do not allow the dog to gnaw everything, to behave oddly, snatch objects from your hands.

At the age of 1.5-2 months, you can start training. Start with the general commands: "Fu", "To me", "Place", "Sit", "Near". It doesn't matter how the commands will sound.

The main thing is for the dog to understand what they want from him. Do not show aggression. Say the commands softly and softly. Labradors learn quickly, especially if encouraged by their treats.

Only breeding Labradors are involved in breeding in accordance with the plan drawn up at the club. At the age of two years, dogs are tested for admission. This test should identify defects that do not allow participation in breeding.

If a labrador is found to have a defect in color, eye color, cryptorchidism, overbite, etc., sterilization is indicated. These dogs are not allowed to participate in exhibitions, breeding. The price of such puppies is much lower. Consider this option if you do not plan offspring and fame for your dog.
