If you know the Ukrainian language, you probably already have solved the secret of the main ingredient. This tsybulya, that is, onions! Tsybulnik, in fact, are some onion cakes. The history of their appearance is not known for certain, but, according to one of the legends, they originated in Lviv (therefore, they are sometimes called “Lviv flat cakes”).

During the besieging of Lviv by the Turks, the townspeople decided to deceive the enemies by putting carts with sand at the gates, imitating provisions. The opponents left the city, considering that there was still a lot of food and strength. But in fact, then only a bow remained, and it was they who were fed by the woman’s soldiers, cooking cakes.

First option

This recipe is quite simple, and for cooking you will need:

  • four onions,
  • half a cup of wheat flour,
  • three eggs,
  • a teaspoon of soda or baking powder (baking powder),
  • sunflower oil for frying,
  • salt pepper.

  1. Peel and chop the onions in any way that is familiar to you, for example, skip through a meat grinder or chop with a knife (you can use a grater).
  2. Put the onion in a rather deep bowl, there break the eggs, add the flour and salt with pepper, and baking powder or previously quenched with boiling water or vinegar soda. Mix everything well.
  3. Heat the oil in a skillet.
  4. Pick up the onion dough with a tablespoon and place the tortillas on the bottom of the pan. Fry them until golden and crisp on both sides.

Second option

These homemade fish shakers are more crumbly and soft.

  • three large onions,
  • two or three eggs,
  • two tablespoons of semolina,
  • tablespoon flour,
  • salt,
  • oil (for frying).

  1. Onions after the preliminary cleansing, finely chop or, for example, rub.
  2. In the resulting onion mass, add eggs, semolina with flour and salt. Mix everything to get a homogeneous mass. Leave it for half an hour, during this time the semolina will swell a little, so that the cakes will become more crumbly, airy.
  3. Heat the oil well in the pan.
  4. Spoon form cakes, put in a frying pan and fry for literally a couple of minutes on each side.

A few final recommendations:

  1. Serve tsibulniki best hot or warm, always with sour cream.
  2. These onion tortillas can be used in different ways, for example, served as a separate dish for tea, eating with first courses or soups instead of bread.
  3. If you add sugar to the dough, then you get sweet pancakes.
  4. Although the taste and smell of onions in the finished tsybulnikah not felt, you can give them a spicy aroma and interesting flavor. To do this, add your favorite seasonings or spices, they definitely will not be superfluous.
  5. You can try to mix onions with other ingredients, such as zucchini, apples, pumpkin. Of course, such flatbreads will no longer be a traditional chicken, but this will not make them any less tasty.

  • Onion 4 Pieces
  • Flour 100 Grams
  • Soda 0.5 Teaspoons
  • Vinegar 9 percent. or lemon juice 1 teaspoon

1. Prepare products for tsybulnik.

2. Peel the onions and cut them into small cubes.

3. Salt it and let stand for running juice for 5 minutes. You can mash it a little with your hands.

4. Add black pepper, raw eggs, mix.

5. Introduce flour and hydrated soda. Stir.

6. Dough for frying is ready.

7. In a well-heated butter with a tablespoon, spread the dough, fry.

8. Turn over, fry well on both sides to a golden color.

9. Tzibulniki ready!


onions - 2 pcs.
egg - 1 pc.
milk - half a cup
salt - pinch
flour - 3 tbsp
0.5 tsp of soda, quenched with vinegar
vegetable oil

Onions cut into thin half rings. I did it with the Berner grater. Well, it seems to me, you can just cut into cubes.

Salt, mash our onions.
Add egg, soda, flour. then milk. Mix everything well.

Fry in vegetable oil like pancakes.

I got 10 pcs. I served them to the soup.

How to cook tsibulaniki?

If there are no special onion lovers in your family, try making this dish and surprise them with unusual tastes of tsibulaiks, which hardly hints at the presence of onions among the main ingredients.

  • onion - 4 pcs.,
  • eggs - 2 pcs.,
  • flour - 6 tbsp. spoons
  • kefir - 2 tbsp. spoons
  • soda - ½ tsp
  • Vinegar - 1 tsp,
  • salt, pepper - to taste.

Finely chop the onion, salt, pepper and crush slightly. In a separate bowl, mix the eggs, a pinch of salt and pepper, a little kefir, or sour cream, flour, and vinegar baking soda. In the resulting thick, like a pancake, the dough mix pieces of onion. Fry tsibulyaniki on both sides in a frying pan with vegetable oil until golden brown. Served with sour cream and greens.

Milk-drenched recipe

This recipe is different from the previous accuracy of its appearance. Thanks to the finer cutting and the less dense dough, the finished tsibulaniki can not be distinguished from real pancakes.

Tsybulniki is not only a funny word, but also a tasty dish. It received such a strange name for the reason that it is prepared from onions, and in Ukraine, the onion is called “Tsybulya”. Here where, probably, tsybulnik in a big honor! Although not a fact, the locals may not even suspect about such a dish, since it is purely Ukrainian. Usually it is served as a snack to the famous Ukrainian red borsch. Delicious food is unreal, so I certainly advise everyone to submit a rich borsch with tsybulniki for a Sunday family dinner - it is so fragrant and tasty that it’s impossible to convey with words, it’s better to cook and see for yourself. And cooking them is easy!

  • Onion - 4 pcs
