Agree that parrots are the most popular pets from the category of birds. But their natural habitat does not provide for captivity, therefore, in order for them to feel more comfortable, they need a cozy cottage (cage). A large variety of cells is represented in the market for pet products. But still, to get one that will fully meet the requirements of the content of parrots, will have to work hard.

Simply put, make a cage with your own hands. But before proceeding directly to the production, it is necessary to study the basic requirements for the conditions of keeping birds at home and the materials used to create a cozy house. Only in this case, a homemade cage for a parrot like a pet and will last a long time.

Parrot Cage Requirements

No matter how spacious the cage you have acquired, the parrot will not get enough freedom of movement anyway. You can add comfort to the place of maintenance by providing your pet with the opportunity to constantly change its location and move more. For this you need a properly equipped cell. With your own hands for a parrot you can create a real paradise. The main thing is not to save on materials and their quality.

Besides the fact that the cage is large, it must also be equipped with numerous perches and platforms where your parrot can sit, play, spread its wings and jump from place to place. An important point: if you notice that your pet spends almost all the time sitting at the bottom of the cage, then perhaps it does not have enough space for movement. In this case, you need to replace the house on a more spacious version.

Types of bird cages

First of all, pay attention to the location of the cell. It depends on how your pet will feel, whether it will be comfortable, whether it feels safe. When making a cage with your own hands, eliminate floor standing options, since by nature any birds, including parrots, never make nests on the ground. If you want to make exactly the floor version, try to make it so that the bottom of the cage is at a height of at least 40 cm from the floor.

And another thing: in the upper part of the cage there must be a convenient playground for games. If necessary, the parrot can not only stay awake on it, but also sleep. Which is also very important. Agree that a cell equipped according to all the rules for a parrot will compare favorably with the standard factory options.

Here are a number of factors that you need to pay attention to when choosing a ready-made cell or creating it yourself:

- age (life experience, habits),

- time spent in the cell (constantly or at some specific periods, for example, only at night),

- features of the nature of the bird.

We determine the shape and size of the cell

The size and shape of the cage depend directly on the type of bird. A cage for a wavy parrot and for a larger species, such as a cockatoo, cannot be the same in size and shape. That is why the wrong choice will negatively affect the behavior of your pet. Here are a number of recommendations, the implementation of which will allow you to give your parrot a decent life without any problems whatsoever.

Recommended cell sizes

So, the smallest of pets (wavy or blue-headed parrots) require keeping in a cage, the width of which will be at least sixty centimeters. Parrots of medium size and amazons should be placed in the houses (cages), whose width is not less than 80 centimeters. But the cages for the largest species of these birds are different in that their width is not less than 1 meter. Homemade cage differs from the factory versions in that you can make it exactly the size you need during production.

Another feature of cages for birds: their width must be greater than the height. This is due to the fact that the birds, although they can fly, still move in a horizontal plane, just like you and I.

Cage scare yourself. Tips for making

Despite the fact that pet stores have a wide range of different cells, some owners want to make a pet cage with their own hands. "How to make a parrot cage yourself?" - The question is quite common. Let's take a closer look at the most important nuances related to the manufacture of the cell.

As noted above, first of all, it is necessary to determine the shape and size of the future cell, after which you can proceed to create a sketch. It should be sufficiently detailed and reflect all the necessary dimensions.

The following is an exemplary list of the basic elements that make up a standard cell. With your own hands for a parrot you can make any house: from the smallest cage to a spacious aviary. All variants have the following components in their design:

  1. Pallet. For him, you can use the finished box or run it from fiberboard and slats. It should pay attention to the height of the sides, they should not be very low.
  2. Frame (it is a grid, curved in the desired shape and high quality mounted on the frame).
  3. Roof.

Required materials and work order

All you need for self-cage manufacturing is wire, corners, metal profile, screws and nails. When choosing materials for the cage, it is necessary to give preference to an environmentally friendly one, which will not be able to harm the life and health of your beloved pet.

If you plan to use wooden parts in the cell device, then the most suitable will be ash or oak. These wood species are most resistant to moisture. For painting cells best to use modern options for environmental paint.

The beginning of the process for the production of cells provides for the moment of preparation of the framework To make them quite simple, all you need to pay attention to is their high strength. Each of the frames consists of four separate elements (blanks).

The next step involves the creation of the side parts using a metal profile. That part of the side walls, which is longitudinal in nature, should be bent at an angle of 90 degrees and fastened to the lower and upper parts. Parts of the frame are fastened with screws. Since you know the size of the frames, in accordance with them the necessary amount of the grid is cut, which must be adjusted along the edge of the profile. After marking the intersection of the wire and the frame, you need to drill holes. They must correspond to the diametral size of the wire from which the grid is made.

Do not forget to equip the finished cage with special hooks that are needed in order to fasten various accessories (perches, feeding trough, drinking trough and so on).

As for the cleanliness and care of a parrot, in this respect the retractable tray is very convenient. It will not be difficult to make one. For it, you will need a frame from a profile and a sheet of galvanized metal. By connecting them, you get a retractable pallet.

The cell door also requires special attention. The easiest way to make it is to cut a hole in the grid. But at the same time, one should pay attention to its size (not very large) and its location (closing from top to bottom).

That's all! Made and equipped cage with his own hands for a parrot or another bird is ready. You can acquaint your pet with a new apartment.

Optimal size

It seems only at first glance that there is absolutely nothing difficult in choosing the right cell for such small creatures as wavy ones. In fact, everything is a little different. It is important to remember that in order for the bird to feel comfortable, it needs living space. It can be provided in two ways - regularly releasing the bird to fly around the apartment or private house, or to settle it in an overall cage.

To make the bird feel comfortable, it needs living space.

The first option is considered the most optimal, because in this case there are no shackles - the parrot flies freely, trains its wings, builds up its muscles. Accordingly, his health is improving. But there are obvious disadvantages. First, it can be problematic to drive the animal back into the cage - it will have to wait until it gets hungry and does not climb to its trough itself. Secondly, the life processes of the body of birds are completely uncontrollable. Combined with the fact that they also have an accelerated metabolism, this threatens you that within a short period of time your rooms will be heavily contaminated with droppings, and in the most unpleasant places - on TV, computer, on the dining table, etc. d.

Therefore, the cage should be in any case, especially if you plan to release a pet from it from time to time, and not on an ongoing basis. Accordingly, his home should be as comfortable as possible. First of all, it concerns its dimensions. There are many assumptions, tips, recommendations, requirements, restrictions, etc. From all this it can be understood that the volume of the cage should be directly proportional to the size of the bird that it contains, as well as the number of pets.

If there are more parrots than two, then this is already a nursery. It is not recommended to keep such a number of birds at home on a permanent basis - only if it is young, which will be sold for a while, gifts to friends, relatives, etc.

It is not recommended to keep a large number of birds at home on a permanent basis.

The essence of the choice of the volume of the cage is that the bird needs a space where it could fly. It is clear that they are not so free, but they need a kind of warm-up, because its absence could threaten the parrots with the appearance of physical inactivity, as well as other diseases.

Selection of materials

Any construction business begins with the design of the future construction, and after - with the choice of materials. If you have already decided on the volume, it's time to choose the materials from which the parrot cage will be made with your own hands.

It is important to understand that as a raw material you need to use materials that will be safe for your pet. A distinctive feature of birds (and not only them) is that they constantly try to taste something. Do not hesitate - the cell itself will become the subject of their increased attention, namely, the pallet, poles, lattice, etc.

If materials contain toxic substances, they can enter the body of the wavy, causing corresponding effects.

This should be avoided by all available methods. Many manufacturers make their cells from cheap materials, such as plastic, in order to make the production process as cheap as possible. But such designs for wavy parrots fit very poorly. Plastic, especially colored, releases into the environment harmful substances that, sooner or later, will enter the body of a bird. In addition, the plastic elementary hard - it can press the legs of a parrot, because of which they appear painful calluses.

The best alternative to plastic is natural wood. But there are certain limitations. First, it should not have any adhesive and paint-and-lacquer solutions - they are toxic. Secondly, carefully select the type of wood - ash, oak and other solid and durable wood are perfect for the pallet, fruit trees and shrubs for the poles.

Llya cage pallet is perfect for ash, oak and other solid and durable wood

Some types of trees absorb harmful substances from the environment - a particular feature, for example, has a poplar. Take an interest in this before picking up wood for making a cage.

As for the rods, they must be made of metal. However, in no case should it be painted. The best option is galvanized steel, which does not oxidize when exposed to air, that is, does not rust. You can buy such a grid in almost any hardware store. Focus on the preferred dimensions of the future grid. In any case, if the grid is large, it can always be shortened with the help of appropriate tools.

How to make a cage for a parrot with your own hands

Now consider in detail the method of making cages for poultry with the help of scrap materials and tools. Contrary to popular belief, this task is fairly simple, even for those who do not have much experience in the construction or carpentry business.

It is easy enough to make a cage, even for people who do not have much experience in construction or carpentry.

Initially, you need to make a pallet. This is the basis of the future cell, it must have appropriate dimensions. All other elements of the cell are adapted to this size - mesh, perches, etc. cannot be less or more than a pallet.

The pallet can be made from individual blanks, for example, a wooden sheet and four bars, which this sheet is clipped around the perimeter, or you can take a finished structure - even the door from the cabinet or from other furniture will do. It is possible to fit the workpiece to the required dimensions using a normal hacksaw. It is necessary to hammer in nails with an edge outside - that they did not stick out in a cage.

When the pallet is ready, proceed to the manufacture of mesh fencing.

Making a wire mesh is dreary and long. There is no point in loading yourself with this work, because, as mentioned above, you can buy high-quality mesh in finished form at almost any agricultural store. Measure the dimensions of the future cell, and calculate the quantity of the required grid. In any case, take with a small margin.

You can cut steel mesh with a grinder or, if there is no such tool, with metal shears. The work is simple, no difficulties should arise. It should be noted that it is necessary to cut so that from all sides of the workpiece there are open rods that do not overlap with a perpendicular strip.

You can cut steel mesh with metal shears.

Next - collecting the grid. Take two blanks, put them at an angle of ninety degrees, then gently twist both bare rods in a strong loop - this will be the connection for the two parts. It is advisable to twist in such a way that the sharp edges look outward, and not inside the grid.

Perform this operation with the remaining blanks, and then get a fully assembled mesh.

The length of the poles should correspond to the width of the span of the grid. At both ends of the wooden crossbar, it is desirable to make a cut where the wire will be inserted later - this will significantly improve the quality of fixing the perch within the cage. This is very important, since wavy parrots, in spite of their not very large sizes, are very active, and if the perch is poorly fixed, it can fall, seriously frightening the birds.

Self-made cages for parrots need to be collected as carefully as possible to prevent mistakes, because it will be difficult to fix them. Put the grid on the pallet in the way you see the finished cage. Next, under each open rod, make the appropriate mark - here you will need to make small holes to insert the grid.

After marking and drilling holes, re-install the grid, but in these holes everything should be the same. Some rods gently bent, so that the grid will be held on the pallet. It is not necessary to bend all the rods - three or four is enough for each side - this will be enough for high-quality fixation.

Next install perches and all other accessories. The cage is ready!

The size of the cage that you need in the cage of a parrot to feel comfortable

A very large number of cells that the market or store offers, in our opinion, are not suitable for the house of any living creature. In particular, the cells are “tubes”, which are 30 cm diagonally, but a meter high. Birds do not fly in height, like helicopterstherefore, for exercise, the most important is horizontal space, not vertical. Imagine what it is like to live in a closet, 3 floors high! Many people choose such cells because they create the illusion of space without taking up space in the room.

The larger the enclosure is, the more freely the bird will feel.

However, what to do if you can not afford a huge cage to conveniently place all the interior items for the birds that you would like.

So what size is preferable?

  • For parrots of small and small sizes (canaries, wavy, Corella): not less than 60 cm x 90 cm.

For example, caique or lory are considered relative small in size, but their extremely high level of activity is forced to use every inch of the cell a hundred times a day. Therefore, they need a large cage.

Advice: do not overload the cage with a huge number of toys, otherwise the house will look like an aunt's living room, filled with an unimaginable amount of furniture, in which it becomes difficult to move.

What should be a safe cage

Choosing a bird aviary, you should pay attention to how safe the cage is, and what bar spacing. If the bird manages to stick its head between the rods, then there is a risk of getting stuck and in trying to break free - injuries and even death. Because of this, it is worthwhile to carefully place a small parrot in a huge cage.

Safe distance between the bars of the cage: for small birds - 1 cm, for medium ones - 2 cm, for large ones - 2.5 cm. Therefore, if you think what kind of cage a wavy parrot needs, then you shouldn’t dwell on the large dimensions, as if you don’t want your pet to have space.

The strong beak of the bird is another underwater rock. Many cells are made of fragile rods that are not able to withstand the power of the beak, and this will inevitably lead to the fact that the bird is bent, bite the bars of the grid. Evaluating the cell in the store, don't forget to run your hand over the inside of the frame, in time to notice sharp edges, roughnesswhich may cause pet injury.

What are the cells

The design of parrot cages is the most diverse. In general, there are three main styles: open top, closed and play.

An open-top cage is convenient for moving birds

A) Proceeding from the name, it is clear that the cell has open top. Convenient for the bird so that it can return to the cage as needed to absorb food or water. This style of cage is not suitable for beginners or those who can not force the parrot to return to the cage on time, for example, at night.

Parrot can play plenty on the playground

B) Playgrounds. Quite a popular view for those who do not mind in their pernatics. On the territory, you can place a nutshell or other inedible treats, depending on what the parrot needs in a cage. And the bird will not fail to taste it on the beak! The bird is where to roam and do their bird affairs. However, if the bird is not trained, then for the owner it can become a real problem to return the parrot to its place, as well as in the case of open-top cages.

Beautiful decorated cells serve as an interior decoration.

AT) Standard closed cells. May have a flat or rounded dome. This type of aviary does not have a playground or an open top.

Tip: the more decor in the cage, the more it distracts attention from the bird itself, and so beautiful and bright enough. In addition, some cell decorations can cause pet injuries.

At what height to mount the cage

Some parrots tend to exhibit dominance towards ownersif they are above. There are different opinions about why this happens, but there is no scientific evidence on any side of the issue.

The solution to the problem is to tame the parrot. If you teach a bird to sit in your hand, every time you release it from its cageand, then problems will not exist. Getting praise from you, gentle stroking or a piece of delicacy is the best pleasure for the birdie!

By the way, constantly keeping the bird below eye level is not always a guarantee of good behavior, but some people really think so!

What color cell choose

The bars of most cells are powder coated or made of stainless steel. Powder coating means that the metal is painted with a spray. Such parrot cages can be very attractive, because owners can choose a cage of any color that matches the design of the apartment and the color of the bird.

However, it should be understood that sooner or later you will notice that the paint has peeled off, and you will need to either put up with it or re-dye the cell. Most best choice - stainless steel frame. Such cells are durable. However, they are also expensive. However, in the future you will spend less money on their services than on a standard painted house.

Easy access to all corners of the aviary

Undoubtedly, this is an important factor. If the cage is easy to clean, you will most likely clean it more often, and this will provide a healthier environment for the bird. As a rule, cells with hard-to-reach places, cracks, cracks will collect in themselves crumbs, grains, waste and other debris. A cage that is safe and easy to clean is better than a beautiful birdhouse.

Why a good cell is important

Surely, you are familiar with the story, where one guy makes his dream come true, and buys a hyacinth macaw, but he doesn’t have enough money to buy a cage, and he puts the parrot in an inappropriate box or cage for another animal. While the owner is at work, the parrot destroys the cage, and begins to spoil the furniture and other interior items. Do not repeat his mistakes!

If you love a pet, you probably want the best for it, let's see what the parrot should have in a cage.

Perches and swing

We do not always think about comfort for the feet of our feathered friends. But the parrots use them 24 hours a day, even when they sleep. Best of all, if several poles of different sizes fit into a cell. Natural wooden perches- flowers for parrots is preferable plastic, because have natural roughness. Plastic poles are too smooth and uncomfortable for birds. In this case, the accessory can be further sanded to give it an uneven surface. Sisal ropes are convenient for the bird, but it is worthwhile to monitor their surface so that they do not become too loose, and the parrot could hold on. Swing is also worth choosing from affordable and high-quality materials: a round fabric ring with a pole for a parrot.

Many owners prefer the swing of stainless steel, rubber and rings with impact-resistant plastic. If you choose rubberized products, then you should make sure that the parrot does not bite or swallow the pieces, if you still notice a bad habit - it is better to remove this accessory from the cage.

Parrot Toys

Many bird owners love to pamper their pets. stimulating toys, to diversify the life of the bird and enjoy the observation of the parrot, which are often not deprived of intelligence. Toys are made from a wide variety of materials: wood, acrylic, stainless steel, nylon, polyvinyl chloride, cotton and sisal, cloth, impact resistant, cotton, rubber, paper, tanned leather, husk, dried palm leaves and other organic materials. May be presented in different forms: bells, beads, rings, coconut shells. A variety of shapes, colors, combinations of materials.

Swings are sure to be loved by your pet.

There are hanging toys for parrots, as in the photo, toys, one way or another connected with the cage, rotating toys, toys for hugging, puzzle toys, chewing toys, toys for jumping, toys-clusters, toys for weight loss, toys with noise, interactive toys, children's toys. Parrots love almost all of them. They know that they can do whatever they want with their toys. This is an important component. emotional and mental health of birds - permission to manipulate and destroy your personal belongings.

Curious birds almost immediately strive to explore the object as soon as a new toy enters their tenacious legs. Parrots do not always need fancy toys - for them, it happens that a bolt attached to a string is enough to explore and try it on the beak. Clean parrot sticks (most often from citrus trees) - beautiful the waykeep the bird in the cage. If you decide to make your own bird toys, make sure you use safe materials.

Of the additional accessories, if space permits, you can put in the cage a stone, chalk for a parrot.

Feeding trough and drinking bowl for a parrot

These two accessories are integral parts of any parrot cage. If cell sizes allow, it is best to use three parrot feeders: a drinking bowl, a bowl for dry foods (for example, grains), and a feeder for wet foods (for example, vegetables). Food bowls come from a variety of materials. A parrot feeder made of impact-resistant plastic, ceramic or stainless steel is safe to feed, but it is better not to use galvanized metal bowls due to the potential toxicity of heavy metals.

Water in the drinker needs to be changed every day.

Parrots should always have access to clean filtered water. Quite often, large parrots, for example, Amazons, confuse the drinking bowl with the toilet, so you need to change the water several times a day. For such parrots recommends to purchase bowls with a "hood" or put special closed drinkersas in the photo. Such drinkers for parrots, despite the fact that they are not polluted externally, require a change of water at least once a day.

In large cells, many owners buy special grid stand. On such a grid, you can periodically put slices of vegetables: corn, carrots, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, pea pod. Green beans, an orange slice, a slice of mango or papaya, a slice of banana, Brussels sprouts, slices of sweet potatoes, zucchini - all this will certainly find its application.

Of course, a greater number of delicacies end up at the bottom of the cage, but nevertheless the parrot spends time with pleasure and eats those pieces that it considers necessary.

Do I need a parrot mirror in a cage?

In nature, parrots live in whole flocks. At home, the parrot is looking for a companion. In your absence, he will not be lonely if you hang a mirror in a cage. The reflection in the mirror of the parrot will most likely be perceived as the second bird.

There are several dangers here:

  • he can start pecking mirror. The materials of which the mirror is made for a parrot can be dangerous. Therefore, when choosing, pay attention to safe materials, such as a plexiglass mirror.
  • parrots, like people. Differ in character and temper. Not all birds can enjoy the presence of a competitor in a cage (he will see a competitor in reflection), so if you notice that the bird is irritable, then it is better to remove the mirror from the cage.

What to lay on the bottom of the cell

Sand for parrots

  • Birds can use sand for games and entertainment, and will often be picked at the bottom of the cage.
  • Aesthetic beauty

  • Will scatter in the cage and beyond
  • It is difficult to notice changes in the litter, and this is the first sign of a bird's disease

Paper

  • Easily accessible
  • Easy to handle

  • Do not use newspapers (printing ink is harmful to birds)
  • A bird can gnaw paper, which adversely affects its health (for example, a goiter can clog up)

Sand bottom

  • Special development from companies, does not scatter in a cage
  • Easy to clean

Empty tray

  • no need to use available tools
  • well visible litter

  • Polluted often, requires periodic cleaning.

Which cage to live well in?

In order for the bird not to feel imprisoned, you need to carefully consider what kind of cage for your pet should be. Remember that the bird needs at least freedom of movement, even in limited conditions.

Therefore, it is desirable if you purchase a cage before the parrot appears in your house, to understand how comfortable it will be, and also to treat it from parasites, since it is unknown where this structure was stored, who could be in it , and how much time has passed since its production.

Why not round, you ask? The fact is that such a form is also acceptable, however, it is often not very convenient to clean it. Also, such a cell shape assumes a circular view from all sides, which may suit a parrot that has already adapted to your conditions. But for a beginner, who is still scared of any rustling, it is better to take a cage that fits tightly to the wall - so the parrot will be much calmer.

The height of the cage should be about 40-50 cm, and for two birds it is necessary to provide its width. The size of the cage for the wavy parrot is 25 cm in width, 40 cm in length. For a pair of wavy hair - the width should be 50-60 cm.

The most convenient and comfortable option for the parrot can be a rectangular cage made of solid metal rods. You can use it with a round dome, however, it would be better if the habitat is completely flat, without frills.

Among the wide range of products in pet stores there are cages with a wooden bottom. You don’t need to buy such cages, as your feathered friend is more likely to be an amateur to nibble and chop a tree.

If you still bought such a cage, be sure to treat the wood with a insecticide safe for the bird, or you can pour boiling water over the entire structure and dry it thoroughly.

Also, pay attention to the cell door.

There are 4 types of doors:

  • the door opens from top to bottom
  • the door opens upwards,
  • the door opens to the side
  • guillotine door, which slides along the bars from top to bottom.

It is best to use option number 3, but remember that birds very quickly learn to copy your actions and can easily learn to open the door on their own. Therefore, take care of a reliable lock on the cell door.

Also, it is important to know what material was used to make a house for your parrot. Pet shops often sell copper and zinc cells, but you need to know that these metals can cause poisoning, especially if you put apple slices, peaches and other juicy products between the bars. They are oxidized by the action of fruit acid, and the bird can get very intoxicated and die.

Do not buy cells with painted rods, as the parrot can get poisoned with paint.

So, to summarize, what should be the cage for parrots ideally:

  • spacious
  • made from environmental materials
  • safe in terms of design.

Location is important for birds

An equally important issue for the owners of parrots will be where you want to place the cage.

A house with a bird should not be:

  • under the scorching rays of the sun,
  • on the windowsill in the winter, above the battery,
  • next to poisonous house plants: monsterra and other decorative flowers,
  • on the floor,
  • in a dark corner
  • in the middle of the room.

It should be located at a distance of 35 cm from the floor. Do not place the cage on the floor, as in the wild, wavy are not adapted to live on the ground. Adjust the temperature, if the sun's rays fall on the cage, then be sure to pritenite at least a part so that the bird does not overheat and does not get sick.

If you have several birds, then you need to take into account the fact that they need a personal space. Violating these rules, your pets will experience stress, and in case of a long condition, they often get sick, may behave inadequately.

Important rules

Before you start building a cell yourself, you need to pay attention to some rules.

For example, it is important to immediately determine the thickness of the rods and the material itself, from which they will be produced:

  1. For a wavy parrot, it is recommended to choose a grid or rods, the width between which does not exceed 2 mm in diameter, the distance between them is not more than 15 mm.
  2. If we are talking about large breeds of talker birds such as Jaco, Amazon, cockatoo, the rods are made of metal wire with a diameter of 3-4 mm. And the distance between the loziny leave more than for wavy.

Simple method

Having a minimum set of tools and building materials in the house, you can try to make a parrot cage from:

  • iron mesh,
  • metal rods,
  • wire and transparent frames.

Since, a wavy parrot cage will be located in your home, it must have an aesthetic look, respectively. Immediately it is worth considering the design: whether it will be a rectangular “box” or a two- and three-tiered hacienda of an extraordinary shape.

Think in advance where the utility compartment will be located in the cage. The easiest way to find any metal profiles in the house or garage. From them it will turn out well to make a framework. It is worth considering what grid to prefer for the walls.

For factory cells, it is customary to use a grid with 3 mm wire rods. Such rods, as a rule, are not commercially available, it is necessary to order a special production on a welded mesh. But what you can not do for the sake of a pet, is not it?

So, for the simplest version of the construction of the walls in a cage, a building grid with 25 by 25 mm cells is suitable. The bottom of the house for a parrot can be made of a piece of old furniture - closet doors, for example.

If these materials are not available, buy a simple sheet of particle board of the size you need. Often, the size of the structure will depend on the size of the bottom, on it and focus, above all, making construction purchases.

  1. Cut the net into pieces and align it.
  2. Sharp edges are immediately recommended to gash or polish.
  3. We drill holes in the bottom of 2 mm, retreating from each 25 mm.
  4. Вставляем в эти места края решетки.
  5. Собираем клетку, загибая стержни сетки между собой, но не вовнутрь, а наизнанку.
  6. Противоположные панели необходимо закрепить между собой с помощью жердочек.
  7. We construct the ceiling panel in such a way that it becomes folding or can be removed as the upper part of the box.
  8. In the ceiling panel, you can make a wire out of the wire, and next to it is another perch.

So your parrot house is ready! It remains only to make and add to it the necessary elements and attributes (toys, mirror, additional compartments).

An important point!

There is another little secret that will help make the best house for your parrot.

It is best to make a large spacious rectangular cell!

Having built a cage, place a strip of plexiglass along the lower perimeter of the facade (20-30 cm). This is done in order to ensure cleanliness nearby.

After all, we all know that a bird is by nature an active creature.

When it flies, it blows its wings all that is at the bottom of the cage: and food, and feathers, and grass. And such a simple way to save space near the cell clean.

If you want to make a cage in which a wavy parrot can not only flit, but also fly, then I offer you the ideal parameters of the aviary:

  • Height: 100 cm,
  • Width: 42-45 cm,
  • Length: 120-130 cm.

How to decorate the cell with your own hands

It will be good to create for the bird not only a comfortable home, but also to diversify its life in a cage. It would be nice to add a piece of a fruit tree branch to a homemade aviary. It can be: cherry, apple, pear.

First, the parrot will be happy to climb the branches, because the love for this kind of occupation lies in its nature. Secondly, birds love to peck at the trees, try out, so to speak, their taste and bite the bark. In the future, you can simply put freshly picked branches from currant bushes into a cage.

Immediately hang one or two small mirrors, in which the parrot will look, and admire the reflection. Toys made from bright beads, ribbons, and rattles will help to diversify the winged pet's house.

Let's sum up

If you decide to make a parrot cage, do not forget to use the following tips.

  1. Making a home for the parrot better from environmental materials.
  2. It is better not to paint the rods, as the paint may contain toxic components, and the parrot will try them very often on the beak.
  3. Observe the size of the cage, the bird should feel comfortable when flapping its wings.
  4. The décor of the cage, namely, perches, toys and everything else can also be done with your own hands.

And most importantly, your pet should feel free in the house, not like in a cage. And then the wavy parrot enclosure fits perfectly into your space. And a talker bird will bring harmony to your home. Good luck!

Cell arrangement

In order for your bird to develop and lead an active lifestyle, it will need toys, rocking chairs, poles, a pocket mirror and other developmental objects. In addition, there is a list of mandatory things that every parrot should have.

It:

  • mineral stone, so that the bird can grind the beak,
  • chalk, as a source of calcium,
  • feeder and drinker.

As for toys, if you keep a couple in the same cage, then you can place toys in one copy: one swing, one bell, etc.

If you live a same-sex couple, such as males, then the entire inventory should be in duplicate: you need not one rocking chair, but two, not one bell, but two. Perch, by itself, should also be twice as large.

Very often, especially if there are two females in a cage, they begin to direct their order in the territory of another parrot. This can cause a protest, so make sure that the birds do not quarrel, and if this happens, spread them out in different cages, at least for a while.

This is one of the most important parts of the cell. In pet stores sold a large number of different pritadov that are necessary wavy parrots. Plastic cages are installed in the cages by default; however, experienced ornithologists recommend replacing them with wooden ones.

You can make them yourself from any tree except:

  • poplars,
  • conifers,
  • acacia,
  • oak, pear, bird cherry (it contains tannins),
  • lilac,
  • a coffee tree.

In order to decide what diameter the perch will suit your pet, you need to know that for budgies the fingers should not close or be constantly in a tense, direct state. As a rule, they are suitable branches from 8 to 18 mm in diameter.

Safe wood poles can also be purchased at the pet store, since not all owners live in environmentally friendly areas. Any prisad (made with their own hands or purchased at a pet store) must be treated from parasites. For this, scald the perch with boiling water.

To date, there are a lot of different feeders available for sale, however, not all of them are safe and useful for your wavy parrot. Often, owners of feathered pets want to please them with new-fashioned "gadgets", however, the bird is not always able to understand how to use it all.

So, a bird can fall into a trap, from where it cannot get out on its own, and if you are not there for a long time, the consequences can be very sad.

How to choose the right feeder and drinker? First of all, take a look at the dishes from which the birds ate and drank before the breeders or in the pet store. If the previous owners used ordinary ceramic dishes, then it is not worth while to complicate anything.

After adaptation, you can accustom a bird to an automatic feeding trough and a drinking bowl, but right at the beginning try to lower stress at your pet.

Cell prices

Prices for cages for parrots, as a rule, depend on its configuration, however, at most, all that your pet needs can be done with your own hands. Therefore, we do not recommend taking a complete house, with a wide variety of toys. You still have to buy them to make a variety in the life of your bird.

The main thing you need to pay attention to is the material from which the cage is made. Let it be a simple aluminum cage of ordinary shape. And all the other supplements in the cage of your pet, you can either do it yourself, or purchase separately.

We wish your parrot a comfortable stay in his home!

What should be a cage for a big parrot

The approximate size of standard home cages for large parrots offered in stores is 75x100x175 cm. And although this is a very conventional standard, we will focus on it. For most large parrots, this is enough. Although the size of the cell - a matter of purely individual. Perhaps you have a large bird, and a small apartment does not allow you to place a mini-aviary of such dimensions. It should be borne in mind that too small a cell adversely affects the health of the birds. Due to the low mobility dictated by the size of the cage, the parrot can hurt, its immunity decreases. As for the form, then a rectangular cage with a flat roof is suitable for a parrot. In a large round cage, a bird may lose landmarks, besides, the parrot needs an angle to get stuck there in a critical situation. On the flat roof you can place a playing area. The thickness of the grid rods must be at least 3 mm, galvanizing cannot be used for these purposes.

Where better to put a cage with a parrot

It is better to install the cage in the room where the owner of the bird spends most of the time. It is desirable that next to no TV, computer or sources of loud sounds (speakers). The place should be sufficiently illuminated, but so that direct sunlight does not fall on the bird. Look in the room near the wall and next to the window.

The wall will give the parrot a sense of security, the bird realizes that there is no need to wait for the threat from the other side. At the same time, the place should be such, where there are no drafts, which are extremely bad for the health of the parrot.

How to equip a cage for a parrot

When arranging the cell, you can express your imagination without limiting yourself. But still it is worth remembering some recommendations.

  1. It is advisable to install 3 feeders: for food, vitamin complexes and fruit.
  2. Poilnik (you can buy or make the automatic drinker).
  3. Two percheslocated at different heights, one - near the feeders. The diameter should be chosen in such a way that the bird can sit comfortably on them, clasping it with its paw (approximately 12–15 mm). Wood should not be polished or smooth, should be felt roughness for ease of girth. It is better to use linden, birch, fruit breeds.
  4. Toys Their number should be such that they do not interfere with the parrot to move freely in the cage.
  5. Swimming pool. Parrots love to splash, especially in the heat.
  6. Mineral stone Birds love to nibble such a stone, in addition, it is useful to them. You can replace the stone with chalk.

How to make a cage for parrots

A good parrot aviary is expensive. But you can try to do it yourself. Although this is a rather time-consuming process, such a cell will have significant advantages in comparison with the factory:

  • you make a cage according to the size that suits you,
  • You can additionally equip the cage with what you consider necessary (utility compartment, various drawers).

Tools and materials

In order to make a home cage, you will need:

  • spot welding machine
  • pattern for making mesh
  • electric drill,
  • wire leveling machine
  • profiled tube 17x17 mm - 9 m,
  • 10x10 mm square - 5 mm,
  • wire (stainless steel) - 300 m,
  • galvanized sheet,
  • paint - 1 liter,
  • 1/2 sheet OSB,
  • Hammerite paint - 0.75 l,
  • Furniture castors - 4 pcs.
  • bolt - 2 pcs
  • Bowls (stainless steel) - 4 pcs.

Step by Step instructions

  1. Cut steel wire rods according to a pattern, leaving a margin of 2 cm for each rod, level them with a machine and drill.
  2. Install the rods into the cuts of the template-matrix using spot welding, weld them together. Inspect the finished mesh, align with hands the places of the wire curvature (usually these are the intersection of the rods).
  3. With the help of a soft metal brush and drill, we remove scale, and we clean our mesh. We pay special attention to the places of welding.
  4. From sheet metal (1.5 mm) we make doors for feeders. On rods they will hold their own loops. Bowls are fastened to the doors from the inside with collars cut from the same metal.
  5. At the top of the side wall we make a wire from the wire for hanging the socket.
  6. From the 17x17 profile, we cut the pipes to the frame size. The front part (doorway and doors) are made of 10x10 mm square.
  7. In the profile holes are drilled according to the patterns of our grid.
  8. A mesh is inserted into the holes, after which the profile (frame) is welded at the corners.
  9. In the front part of the open-air cage, the bars of the grid are arranged vertically, on all other sides - horizontally. This is done in order to make it more convenient for the bird to move around the cage, using rods as pylons.
  10. The cage doors (approximate size 18x60 cm), as already mentioned, are made of a square (10x10 mm), as is the opening. The door is mounted in the opening on pins d 3 mm. For the lock is quite suitable small spring bolt.
  11. The lock should be mounted on a plate welded to the door frame with threaded holes in it. This is done so that there are no nuts inside the cage, the parrot can unscrew them.
  12. Every 15 cm mesh is inserted into the frame. In order not to accidentally remove the fastening pin, they should be immediately marked (duct tape, paint or varnish).

We present an approximate scheme for the manufacture of a cage. You can do everything exactly according to our recommendations, but you can only take them as a basis, adding to your decisions. Perhaps you will add some nuances to the design that will greatly facilitate the manufacture of the entire cell. Good luck to you!

Where to put the cell

It is very important to place the cell at the level of human growth. In this sense, a special stand helps a lot. In this case, one should choose the light part of the room, however, think over everything so that the bird does not end up in a draft. It is logical: the stand must be positioned so that the birds constantly see you.

Our parrots are constantly in need of sunlight, because it helps to improve the health of the bird. You need to take care of your pets and leave one corner darkened in case of a hot sun. In no case should not put the stand where the heaters are located or to place it almost on the ceiling itself. It is also forbidden to leave your feathered friend to live in the kitchen, since flavors will not benefit him.

How to make a cage

A loving and caring owner can always make a cage and even a stand with his own hands, since it is not at all difficult. First of all, you should decide on the size. How to do this, we have already told a little higher. In our instructions we will make a cage with dimensions of 60 x 25 x 35 cm.

Materials and tools

  • sheet of hardboard or plywood,
  • wooden slats section 2x5 cm
  • metal mesh with cells 1-2 cm,
  • copper wire,
  • corner,
  • nails
  • metallic profile,
  • self-tapping screws
  • file,
  • drill,
  • screwdriver,
  • pliers.

Cell Equipment

It is very important that in the “bird room” there is everything for a full-scale residence of a large parrot. A separate question is a mirror, but we'll talk about it in more detail.

The perches are a very important element in a well-made cage. The fact is that the bird spends almost all the time on them. So, these insignificant, at first glance, elements determine the state in which the legs of the parrot are located. We need to make sure that the perch were large enough.

It is very important that perches are of different sizes. They are set relative to each other in such a way that nothing would prevent the large parrot from flapping their wings when it jumps from one pole to another. In addition, when turning the feathery friend should not touch the twigs.

Drinkers and feeders

Utensils for a parrot certainly must be of very high quality material, since its health depends on it. If financial opportunity allows, it is best to opt for porcelain. The budget option is plastic (as in the photo).

Drinkers can be open and closed. In principle, each of them is convenient, but there are difficulties with closed ones, since some parrots absolutely do not want to eat from them. In no case should the owner place the feeder directly under the perch, as in such a case excreta may fall into it. Now we should talk about the mirror.

A mirror is far from a required element in a parrot cage. Argued that if a mirror appears in the aviary, the bird will never be able to speak. This phenomenon can be explained by the fact that the feathered is so keen on its "rivals" that it ceases to be interested in anything.

However, the presence of a mirror makes both large and small parrots not so lonely. If you are not afraid that the bird will concentrate all its attention on its reflection, then buy a mirror and do not hesitate. Perhaps it is the mirror that will make the feathery happy.

We are determined with the size

First you need to determine the size of the cell. It is quite simple to do this, as there are some standards. For example, if one wavy parrot lives in a dwelling, the cage should have the following dimensions: height 40 centimeters, length 40 centimeters and width about 25 centimeters.

If you want to settle a couple, then double the length, and add 5-10 centimeters to the height and width. If the bird is quite large, then the minimum height should be about 70 centimeters, length - about 60 centimeters, and height - about 50-60 centimeters.

How to do?

So, how to make a parrot cage with your own hands?

For production you will need:

  • thin wooden slats for the manufacture of the frame,
  • construction stapler
  • sheet fiberboard,
  • small door hinge
  • small latch for the door,
  • fine metal mesh,
  • electric jigsaw or hacksaw,
  • drill and screws,
  • foil ruberoid tape,
  • pencil and ruler.

  1. First you need to make measurements and make blanks from the rails for the manufacture of the frame. In total, they will need 12. 4 of them will be equal to the height of the future cell, 4 - the length and 4 - the width. Measure the bars of the required size with a ruler, make marks with a pencil and use a hacksaw or electric jigsaw to cut them.
  2. Now you need to make a frame. To do this, connect the slats to each other and fasten them with screws using a drill. The frame is almost ready. But if you want to make another pallet, then cut another bar. To find out its length, measure the distance from one side rail to another in the place where the front side of the cage will be. Place the prepared rail and secure it with self-tapping screws almost at the very bottom of the cage, retreating about half a centimeter between the two edges of the frame.
  3. To the rail, which you secured last, you will fix the opening of the future door.
  4. Now you can immediately make a doorway and door. To do this, measure three bars with a length of about 15 centimeters. Connect them to each other so that you have an arch. Attach this arch to the rail that you secured last.
  5. Now proceed to the manufacture of the door.
Cover the sides first. To do this, measure the perimeter of the base. This will be the length of the workpiece from the grid. The width will be equal to the height of the cell. Now from the inside, cover the walls with a net, fix it on the frame with a stapler. The doorway can be cut immediately before fastening, so it will be more convenient. It is better to glue its edges and all sections of the grid with foil-covered ruberoid tape so that the parrot does not get hurt.
  7. Now make the roof, tightening the top of the cage mesh. Attach it with staples.
  8. Next, cut a piece for the door, after measuring it. Attach this mesh cut to the door with a stapler.
  9. Now cut the two bases from fiberboard. One of them will attach to the frame and be equal to the perimeter of the base, and the other will be used as a pallet, so in order to cut it, from each side of the base subtract the width of the frame rail multiplied by two (otherwise the tray will not fit in the cage ).
  10. Attach the base to the bottom of the frame, place the pan in its place.
  11. Inspect the cage, cover all cuts with ruberoid tape.

What else is needed for the arrangement of the cell?

What should be in a cage for a parrot to be comfortable and not boring? This is a swing, perch, drinker, mirror and trough. By the way, it is better to fix all this before you attach the roof.

To make a swing, you will need a stick with a diameter of 1 centimeter, a drill with a thin drill, wire cutters, a hacksaw or a jigsaw, as well as strong wire.

  1. First, cut a piece of stick of the desired length (about 15 centimeters). Remember that a large parrot will require a rather wide swing.
  2. Now drill holes in each end of the stick.
  3. Cut two pieces of wire approximately 20 centimeters long. Place the ends into the holes in the stick, fasten them so that nothing sticks out. Attach the other ends to the center of the roof.

To make a perpetrator, prepare the same materials and tools as for the manufacture of swing.

  1. Cut a piece of stick equal to the width of the cage (add two centimeters for fastening).
  2. At each end, make a hole, thread the wire and use it to attach the pole. It is better to fix it approximately at the end of the cage (retreat from the wall about 10 centimeters).

You can make a feeder from some plastic box or, for example, from the lid. Simply make a hole on one side of it with the help of an awl, thread the wire through and attach the feeder to the wall with the help of a wire. Of course, you can just put the trough on the bottom, but the parrot will be uncomfortable to eat, because it will constantly move and may turn over.

It is better to buy ready. But you can use a plastic cover. Attach it to the wall in the same way as the feeder.

To make a mirror for a parrot, you can use any plastic female mirror. Simply attach it to the wall by making a hole in the plastic part and using a wire.

Toys can be made from a variety of available materials. For example, you can strung beads on a string. You can also hang a bell. Make a brush out of threads. In general, do something with which the pet will be able to play with enthusiasm.

Useful tips

  • Do not use simple hook type locks, as their parrot can easily open.
  • There should be no sharp corners or protruding parts in the cage so that the parrot does not hurt the legs or tongue.
  • If the cell seems too easy for you, then try to weight it. For example, you can make the bottom metal or attach to it a few metal profiles.
  • Use a fine mesh mesh in which the pet will not get stuck. If a head is placed between the bars, then such housing can be dangerous.

Let the parrot be comfortable in a cage made by your hands!
